I've noticed this render having been uploaded on here (and used on the franchise page) as the collective group artwork from Mario Portal, but it seems the site is actually showing another one which only keeps the newer version of DK alongside the other characters' old renders, while also removing some of the characters such as Rosalina and Toadette. Sadly, I do not remember whether I did visit the site or not at the time, and witness this artwork being used. Was it "reverted", despite the new renders shown here arguably looking more lively and cohesive with one another? This got me thinking it might have actually been another case of fan art considered official all along (such as that famous one with Peach, Daisy and Rosalina as mermaids). Anyone knows whether this artwork has actually been officially used somewhere, maybe with proof such as a page of Mario Portal using this artwork saved in archive.org?
