When the Kongs first arrive in the Factory, the entire area is covered in a thick blanket of smoke. Only by activating the fans in Foggy Fumes, the Factory's first level, will the smoke be blown away.

The Factory is an industrial and mechanical area. It features many new elements not seen in the game's previous worlds, such as moving platforms that tilt, conveyor belts, and many robotic constructions that can hinder or help the Kongs. There are platforms that can crush Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and there are also platforms that disappear and reappear when certain switches are touched. The environment contains numerous references to the arcade Donkey Kong game, namely blue ladders and girders. The area is also unique because in the fifth, sixth, and seventh levels, players need to find a giant red switch. They cannot progress through the game otherwise.
