When the player collides with them, the Egg Pawns will explode and cause the character to be temporarily stunned lose speed, though the Egg Pawns will shortly respawn. 

In the [[Nintendo DS]] [[Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Nintendo DS)|version]], regular Egg Pawns appear as targets in [[Dream Shooting]], as well as a variety with a shield that take multiple shots to destroy. A giant Egg Pawn with a shield acts as a final boss for the event, which takes a large number of hits for the characters to defeat but awards a larger point score to the character that gets the last hit. Egg Pawns also appear as enemies for the player to hit in [[Shoot!]], and as a character to be sorted in [[Conveyor Belt (minigame)|Conveyor Belt]].

The Egg Pawns can be destroyed if they hit by a character under the effects of the [[Super Star]]. Egg Pawns also appear in the second segment of the Sonic World version of [[Dream Figure Skating]], where the characters jump from [[Spring (Sonic the Hedgehog)|Springs]] to defeat them during the routine.
