I don't know why you think you're fine removing content like this. You wouldn't go around removing sections like this on other character pages, would you? You wouldn't be in the right then, either, but what I'm saying is, you're singling out this character's sections for no specific reason. If you wanted to remove the appearance section for that reason, it is your opinion that all appearance sections should be removed. And you're not providing any real reason for removing the personality section, other than you said you think it was padded fluff. But why? How? You're not supposed to remove content like this. :I call it "trimming" rather than removing content. Sometimes, it is general wiki practice to insert general information section in articles, but I'm often not fond of "appearance" sections throughout this wiki, which go through several pains to describe every single detail and its kitchen sink. Generally, I'd keep "appearance" section dedicated to how and why a character is designed that way and/or if a character has seen one or several notable design changes. If not applicable, I'd keep description on either the beginning paragraph or section of the debut game. If the character is much too minor, such as [[Skeeter]], goes through several design changes, it's fine to simply note it in every game it has a change. But anyway, "appearance" section should go since it accomplishes virtually nothing an image can't.
:I'm not explicitly removing content from "personality", although I still ended up removing a lot of information because I feel it's essentially repeating certain personality traits several times. It's also ''telling'', not ''showing'' what Arcade Bunny is. You can cut off "Arcade Bunny has an extroverted personality and earnest demeanor." and cut straight to "The Arcade Bunny is easily excitable, becoming animated and passionate about his interests or when explaining something." Again, I removed "he can also be very humble" and replaced it with "He is quick to apologize for his unusual or exaggerated behavior" which has the implications that he's humble and has a earnest demeanor or maybe other implications left up to interpretation. I also changed "intense" to "exaggerated" to make it more in line with his "animated" demeanor. I removed the "he uses a lot of informal speech, using contractions and filler words often" part since it is vague (what's "filler words"?) and tells us nothing special about his personality, since informal speech is usually a given when you're doing chitchat. Arcade Bunny also has a decently-sized quotes section, so it's already inferred here that he talks like this and that.
:Again, to reinforce "show, not tell" I also cut some words in " The Arcade Bunny is an avid gamer, being very enthusiastic about video games and admitting that he works at the arcade so that he can play the games as soon as they come out." and went straight to the point, "The Arcade Bunny, enthusiastic about video games, admits that he works at the arcade so he can play the games as soon as they are released." although you can add "[...]'''an enthusiastic gamer''', admits that he works at the arcade so he can play the games as soon as they are released.
:I finished with several words cutting cut and not quite enough for its own section, so it seems that I'm removing chunks of content. In the end, the only thing I really removed is "appearance" for reasons I've already explained and the "personality" is simply rewritten and relocated. {{User:Bazooka Mario/sig}} 22:50, 8 January 2016 (EST)

These pages were cleansed by defenders of Mushroom Kingdom from Wario. They are marked by their heads here, proudly.
First two archives contain a bunch of useless, embarrassing, silly shit. Venture there in your mobile phone at your own risk.

Chapter 1: The first batch of messages. Part 2: The second horde of words too horrible to describe.Disc 3: The third batch of doldrums aimed to kill anybody that hates boredom.Section 4: A Large Gap of Inactivity Was in Between Here and Piantas Sat on Them.
The Fifth Element: Placidity and Some Wario Spam by This Yoshi Guy.Article 6, Clause 1: It is illegal to leave Wario alive. And Mario's name emerges.Wario Wars: Episode 7: The R-rated Life Documentary of WarioToadsworth's Boring Symphony: Movement 8 (complete with a bazooka)

My mom gave me a five, she told me to stay alive, but I didn't stay alive. Instead I became this Mario, Bazooka zooka Mario!

  • Welcome with bibbangs! You can talk to me if you want. I'll usually reply, unless it's an extremely immature treasure chest of spam, profanity, and some wandalism mixed in. In that case, no one'll help u if sad.
  • If you're referring me to other users (such as in proposals), I'd rather be called "LeftyGreenMario/LGM" (my former name), "Mario", or "Bazooka Mario". Try to refrain from "BM" since it sounds awfully like "Baby Mario", and a gun-wielding freak like me would rather not be compared to a dumb baby.
  • I will not accept random users as friends. If you want to make friends with me, you have to actually talk to me. And don't forget to be polite.
  • Don't add the {{unsigned}} on my talk page unless you're going to talk to me as well. Adding the template is similar to correcting grammar from a user five months ago; it's a false alarm whenever the notification shows up.
  • And yes, corn is grass. It will also make you want to create fancy headdresses.

MW:Image Maps

Since your proposal passed, I updated MarioWiki:Image Maps accordingly (with proper accreditation). But I've held off on scrapping any of the unnecessary Image Maps ({{PDSMBE-map}}, {{NSMB2map}}, {{NSMBmap}}, {{SMW2YI Map}}, {{YIDS Map}}, {{YISMA3 Map}} and {{SMWmap2}}) in case you wanna orphan them yourself before marking them for deletion: your proposal, your first dibs on any of the maintenance work. I'm good either way (and won't have much time to edit after this weekend anyway). - Walkazo 10:34, 19 September 2015 (EDT)

Replying on your page so that Corrin doesn't get flooded with messages

Sorry, I don't issue reminders on a regular basis, so I didn't know that. But I did check the edit count, and his userspace edits way outnumber his mainspace edits, which I thought was reminder-worthy. My bad File:RoyNSMBU.png Roy Koopa 12:07, 25 September 2015 (EDT)

No, no, it's fine. I'm just hoping Corrin doesn't get too worked up about this. I think other users would've done the same thing, but I'd personally just wait a bit until Corrin becomes accustomed. I was lucky not to have received one in my very early wiki days, after all. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! I deleted the redirect from his talk page to yours, but that's all that can be done, I think. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 07:13, 26 September 2015 (EDT)
That's not good. Links related to my votes and comments will redirect to this user's page rather than mine (like this one). Even if editing those links are a good idea, people have referred to me as "Mario" in the past, so it's going to be just confusing. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. For that, you get an official Wario of the day. Ball Wario in Wario Land 3.

If you accumulate 5 official Warios of the day, your Wario will be Luigi'd from editing for a Donkey Kong's tie amount of days. If you delete your official Wario of the day, you will get another one, plus an unofficial Wario of the week. Also, black holes are deliciously awesome if you refrigerate the allegro in their brutal desire to execute extremely lame oranges of the Manatee Nebula.

hey fyi

if the wiki has a ruby characters template, it should probably be used for those flavor texts since thats what the original cards do. - 2257(Talk) 14:12, 7 November 2015 (EST)

like, a template that lets you print tiny hiragana above the kanji, the way it is on the card. you can see it on wikipedia here. i don't know if this wiki has one or not, since im several years out of the loop - 2257(Talk) 14:19, 7 November 2015 (EST)
actually, looking at the code of that page it seems like its not a template at all, but just a html thing: 東京(とうきょう). i kind of feel like it should be a template if it's going to be used on this wiki, though, just so it looks cleaner in the code - 2257(Talk) 14:25, 7 November 2015 (EST)

Hello!

I was just wondering how you created this image, as it seems very clear and high-quality, and I would like to know how it was made. Thanks! UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 16:36, 23 November 2015 (EST)

woah :o I usually take my models from the Mario Kart 8 section, as it has every character I would need, all pre-rigged and textured. I've used the 3D World model before, but that was when I had no idea what to do. I tried to do what you said with the model, and I came up with something that looked okay. I'll show you the render once I'm finished with it. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 02:56, 24 November 2015 (EST)
My Blender process is sort of like yours- it involves the same few steps. Firstly, I find a good set of models to work with. Normally, I use Mario Kart 8 models, as they are pre-textured and have good quality riggings. I do use Super Smash Bros. U models from time to time, but only with models without multiple faces (although I will try the layers thing you said, it seems like a good thing to do). For my userpage picture and signature, I used the Shy Guy model from Mario Sports Mix. It has quite a lot of bones that I can work with. I also have a customized blue and pink Shy Guy. I don't use anything special for re-texturing, as PAINT.NET does the trick easily. For some models, I have to go with non-rigged, but that is usually okay, as I work round it.
For lighting, I have three options- Point, Sun and Spot. Point is like a light-bulb, and I can adjust the energy and colour of it if I need to. The sun creates a constant light source in one direction, and the Spot concentrates a spot of light into a position, like a spotlight. Normally I go with sun for most renders or animations, but I put points in when I need to lighten a certain area. If I want props or background scenery, I download random objects to put in. The final thing I do is go onto render and world settings, and adjust the camera. Its default is to unload objects at around 100 units of distance (not that far), so I turn that off. Secondly, I change the sky and add mist, if it is a scene. For renders, I leave it blank and remove the background in PAINT.NET. Finally, I turn on ambient occlusion and indirect lighting, both settings that vastly improve the lighting and colours.
I'm not sure if any of this is familiar with you (I think it would be- Maya seems to be a lot like Blender), but I found out most of these things just by experimenting (I once found an option that makes the image able to be viewed with 3D glasses). I am still very new to these things, and I hope I can only get better, and you should too. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 02:54, 25 November 2015 (EST)
It's done! I first tried to do my own version of yours (here), which turned out okay. I retexured a Mario Kart 8 Mario, and tried to replicate what you did with the lighting and position. I think I nailed it down pretty well, it's just that Blender has a sort of grainy quality, and can't do any fancy light rims. However, I made up for that by making the background fully transparent from the start. With the launcher, I added a reflective texture on, and turned down the gloss, as I would expect a rocket launcher to be a little rusty. I also tried my own scene (here), in which I experimented with Sweet Sweet Galaxy, which originally came textureless. I hope you like it! UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 16:02, 25 November 2015 (EST)
Yeah, the graininess is an issue, however it's only noticeable when the lighting is set up wrong- adjusting the energy and angle of the lights fixed the problem. The texturing issue with the ear was a small mistake on my part, I'll make sure to readjust that next time. However, when my renders are animated, they do tend to look nicer. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 04:05, 29 November 2015 (EST)
Thanks! I only noticed the squares once you pointed them out to me- next time, I'll crop them just in case. About the vandal, yeah I shouldn't really talk to them, that kinda just blurted out. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 14:26, 6 December 2015 (EST)
This. Once I get the sprite sheets, I use Paint and Paint.NET to crop and remove the background of the bit I want, e.g. Luigi's idle pose. I also have to change any pure black to a colour identical to the eye, but with a different data value.. thing. Once I've set it up, I put it into the program and select the number of rows and columns, then remove any blank frames. The program exports it separately in rows, so I piece them together in E-Z gif and change the speed. I can also crop the images if I need to, and do any other enhancements. After that, I download the finished product and upload it here. Before I used the program, I idiotically saved each individual frame in a separate file, and then put them together that way. If I feel especially proud of a gif, I upload it to imgur, because everyone cares. I think that's how most other sprites on this wiki are made. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 14:49, 6 December 2015 (EST)
P.S. I tend to only animate the sprites that look exiting or have a lot to it, otherwise it just feels boring. The interface is a little confusing at the start, even though there's like 4 buttons, but I got used to it quickly. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 14:54, 6 December 2015 (EST)

"don't use the color picker"

...I didn't. I rescaled it (nearest neighbour) down to the size of the pixels. Same with all of them - at no point did I redraw anything from scratch.

And with this, I did the same thing with the NOE Twitter pic. (Which I notice you haven't undid the {{aboutfile}} change for...) - Reboot (talk) 18:39, 4 December 2015 (EST)

Yeah, didn't realize that. We used to have users going around and creating their own sprites from those screenshots if you've seen the edit history. I don't see the need to scale the images, though since they're already rescaled in their pages. I suppose it won't be that different when the rip comes, but I don't think it's imperative to scale them. As for Frog Mario, I'd just crop it rather than scale AND crop it.

The thing is that the Wiki scales these things very badly, inherently - if they were uploaded 8-bit (or less) colour *and* were perfectly cropped (no borders) *and* were precisely scaled to X00% of original-size, it might be okay. But as it stands they're a blurry, smeary mess in the article. (Also, for some bizarre reason the Mario Trio one is out-of-ratio. The "pixels" in the picture uploaded to the NOE Twitter account are vertical rectangles when they should be square).

Note that I wasn't presenting them as rips, and indeed said quite clearly in my upload descriptions "still need rips". It was intended as an interim step. - Reboot (talk) 01:32, 7 December 2015 (EST)

If you're in the mood to discuss font families, here's a talk page that's not mine to discuss it. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Homo sapiens sapiens

Hey! This is in response to this edit. First, let me say I agree about the inclusion of "(sic)". I had actually thought about it some time after removing it, and all in all I think it should stay. Also, the reason I gave ("outdated denomination since 2003") was mostly nonsense and I was mistaken by the French Wikipedia. That being said, (and this might be a little bit too technical for MarioWiki), but as far as I can tell, Homo sapiens sapiens is a subspecies (which only encompass modern humans, but that's not the point). Considering we only know Mario's species (and not his subspecies), it makes more sense to compare his species with our species (and not our subspecies). Would you agree to remove the second "sapiens" from this trivia?
Banon (talk · edits) 15:38, 1 January 2016 (EST)

I do remember you (even though you changed your name)! I see your point. I think "Homo sapiens sapiens" is the best choice, because more preciseness is always better. However, saying "not the same species as a modern human (Homo sapiens sapiens)" kind of implies that H. s. sapiens is a species, which is false.
In that case, just be glad this isn't RoadRunner Wiki, because Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner have a different genus every week :p
Also, may I suggest moving the trivia entry about Mario's height to the "Physical description" section? Oh, I think the section "Edutainment games" might breach the manual of style. It's against policy to separate appearances based on media, rather than series. Athough maybe you could argue the Edutainment games constitute a series. Uh. I don't know!
Banon (talk · edits) 18:49, 1 January 2016 (EST)

Please, take your time! I was simply pointing out a couple of things I'd noticed. Of course, I didn't want to made drastic changes on an article you're currently working on, so I thought it'd be best to discuss it with you :) As for the sapiens stuff, I think talking about both species and subspecies might be a tad confusing, but overall you handled that trivia pretty well and I think it can stay that way.

If the character is much too minor, such as Skeeter, goes through several design changes, it's fine to simply note it in every game it has a change. But anyway, "appearance" section should go since it accomplishes virtually nothing an image can't.
I'm not explicitly removing content from "personality", although I still ended up removing a lot of information because I feel it's essentially repeating certain personality traits several times. It's also telling, not showing what Arcade Bunny is.
Again, to reinforce "show, not tell" I also cut some words in " The Arcade Bunny is an avid gamer, being very enthusiastic about video games and admitting that he works at the arcade so that he can play the games as soon as they come out." and went straight to the point, "The Arcade Bunny, enthusiastic about video games, admits that he works at the arcade so he can play the games as soon as they are released." although you can add "[...]an enthusiastic gamer, admits that he works at the arcade so he can play the games as soon as they are released.
I finished with several words cutting cut and not quite enough for its own section, so it seems that I'm removing chunks of content. In the end, the only thing I really removed is "appearance" for reasons I've already explained and the "personality" is simply rewritten and relocated. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left.
