Tryclyde is a hydra-like, three headed snake. Red in color for the Nintendo Entertainment System, green for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Two of its heads shoot fireballs at the player. It's the boss of World 2 and 6 in Super Mario Bros. 2 and only World 2 of Super Mario Advance.

In his chamber are a pile of Mushroom Blocks and usually a Tweeter. The player has to throw them at Tryclyde to win. For a defense strategy, stack the fireproof blocks in a column, and throw the extras over the wall.

Due to the original red coloring of Tryclyde, it is assumed by many that he is either an adult Cobrat, or a Cobrat who has been transformed by King Wart's magic (as Clawgrip is shown to be in Super Mario Advance). In the manual for Super Mario Advance, it states Tryclyde is an outsider that was taken in by Wart due to his evil nature.

Appearances in Other Media

Tryclyde also played a prominent role in the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! as a member of King Koopa's Koopa Pack. He was depicted as strong, but not very intelligent, and he often went up against Princess Toadstool.
