| Ness returned in the game's sequel ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. However, he was available from the start. He only took his place in ''Super Smash Bros. Melee'' due the delay of ''Mother 3'' in the US, where he would have been replaced by ''Mother 3''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s protagonist, [[Lucas]]. He added a new attack to his arsenal, [[PK Flash]], which was one of his ''EarthBound'' attacks. Ness also has one of the most useful smash hits, which involve his [[Homerun Bat]].

| Ness appears in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'' as an unlockable character. He is unlocked if the [[Player|player]] plays five matches in Brawl or reflects 10 projectiles. If either of these requirements are met, the player will battle Ness, and if the player wins, unlocks Ness. An alternative is to simply play as Ness in The Subspace Emissary, which will automatically unlock him without having to fight. Ness's moveset is exactly like [[Lucas]]'s, but most of his attacks differ slightly. His [[Final Smash]] is the same as Lucas's as well - [[PK Starstorm]].
