Species Birdo
First appearance "The Bird! The Bird!" (1989)

The Giant Birdo,[1] also just known as Birdo,[2] is a large, purple Birdo wearing an orange bow and glasses; the Giant Birdo is also extremely near-sighted and is a character from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "The Bird! The Bird!".

In the beginning of the episode, the Giant Birdo, seeing Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool traveling through the Land of Ice, swoops downward and grabs Toad, mistaking him for her lost baby, Cheepy.

Flying to her home atop a tall mountain, she proceeds to drop a protesting Toad in a crib and begin to smother him with kisses, glad to have found her missing "baby". Ignoring Toad's claims that he is not her baby, the Giant Birdo, after some difficulty, proceeds to answer a nearby ringing phone and told the caller, the Missing Bird Bureau, that she no longer needs them to search for Cheepy, as she has already found him. Hanging up the phone, the Giant Birdo attempts to give Toad more kisses and hugs as he frantically tries to run away.

Managing to eventually catch Toad, she proceeds to force-feed him milk from a bottle; forcing the bottle from his mouth, Toad once again tries to explain he is not Cheepy; ignoring Toad, the Giant Birdo is suddenly reminded that it is time for "Cheepy's" flying lessons by a nearby clock.

Grabbing Toad, she proceeds to fly through the air, attempting to reach 30,000 feet, with the plan of dropping Toad, expecting him to fly; eventually reaching the wanted altitude, she drops Toad, who manages to survive the fall by using his mushroom cap as a parachute.

Later, the Giant Birdo, after having the real Cheepy returned to her by Toad and Princess Toadstool, aids Mario and Luigi in their battle against King Koopa and his Koopa Troopa and Flurry minions by holding Mario and Toad in the air, as they dropped Turnip from a sack on King Koopa and his minions.

Having managed to drive King Koopa from the land, the Giant Birdo, still grateful to Toad, Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool for finding Cheepy, invites them to her home for some lunch. In the end, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad flee from her home after learning that their "lunch" is large, talking worms.
