Donkey Kong Jr. is an Arcade game that was the first and only game to have Mario cast as a bad guy. It was the sequel to Donkey Kong.

Donkey Kong Jr. had to rescue his father, Donkey Kong, from Mario, perhaps holding a grudge for the kidnapping of his girlfriend Pauline. Donkey Kong Jr. had to climb vines and leap on trampolines to rescue his dad from Mario. Donkey Kong Jr. also had to avoid Snapjaws.

Later Rare, in the Donkey Kong Country series, they said that Cranky Kong was the kidnapped character and Donkey Kong was Donkey Kong Jr. However Nintendo seems to not like this and calls the current Donkey Kong the kidnapped one.
