Template:Company-infobox DIC Entertainment (stylised as DiC Entertainment; often shortened to DIC and pronounced "deek") was an animation company that created many programs, including Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, Sailor Moon, and The Real Ghostbusters. They were responsible for almost all of the animated Mario shows, as well as other closely related shows such as Captain N: The Game Master and The Legend of Zelda.

History

DIC was started in 1971 by Jean Chalopin in France, as a subsidiary of Radio-Television Luxembourg. The company's American headquarters were established in 1982 in Burbank, California. In 1986, DIC was bought by Andy Heyward and it became an American company. At several points in time, DIC had been an independent company, but it has also been bought and sold by several larger companies, including Disney and ABC. On July 23, 2008, DIC was acquired by Cookie Jar Entertainment. Both were soon acquired by DHX Media in 2012.
