Species | Cat/Bat monster |
First appearance | Wario Land 4 (2001) |
Catbat is the boss of the Sapphire Passage in Wario Land 4.
It is a large, ghost-like cat with a bat on its head. This monster has the features and wings of a bat, and is able to fly in the air. Catbat's battle area has a pool of water in the floor, with a mechanical fish swimming back and forth through the water. In order to harm the Catbat, Wario must ride on the waves Catbat creates when it crashes into the pool and ram into its bat head. After each attack, Catbat becomes enraged, spitting out three purple mines. If Wario touches a purple mine, he will become Puffy Wario and float upwards, causing the Catbat to laugh and run across to the other side, wasting valuable time. Catbat can be knocked back via ramming, but doing so causes it to spit out a mine each time.
After enough hits, the bat head is destroyed, leaving a bald patch on Catbat's head and enraging it further, as it will now spit out red mines. This time, they will damage Wario (instead of transforming him). When on the newly undulating wave, Wario must jump off and ground pound Catbat's head. When Catbat is at critically low health, it will continually spawn red mine one at a time. After enough hits, Catbat is defeated and Wario is rewarded with the creature's Bracelets.
