????? can be a Skeletal Shark or a Cheep-Cheep with a shark fin attached to its back. They attacked the Mario Bros. while the heroes were in the Gwarhar Lagoon during the events of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. These enemies always appear in groups, including both the Skeletal Sharks and the Cheep-Cheeps, so it impossible to tell which kind will attack until it's too late.
In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Shrooba Divers sometimes threw the shark-finned Cheep-Cheeps as an attack. Unlike the other thing Shrooba Divers throw (spherical cacti), the Cheep-Cheep would bounce over the Mario Bros., only damaging them if they jumped.
Attacks
The ????? has two attacks, depending on which type it is:
- Cheep-Cheep-like fish will jump right over Mario or Luigi, but if the Mario Bros. jump, they'll get hurt.
This combination can be very annoying, since the ?????s shuffle places each time one of them attacks, making it almost impossible to tell which kind the attacking one is. Therefore, the Mario Bros. could get hurt by a Cheep-Cheep one, expecting it to be a skeleton shark type, and vice versa.
