Template:Character-infobox Shadow the Hedgehog is a prominent anti-hero and the rival of Sonic the Hedgehog in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games like Wario from the Mario series. He was created to be the ultimate life-form by Dr. Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Shadow does whatever is necessary to achieve his goals, and because of this he has fought both alongside and against Sonic the Hedgehog. Shadow's primary abilities are his supersonic speed and ability to use Chaos Emeralds to manipulate time and space.

History

Sonic adventure 2=

After discovering the existence of a secret weapon mentioned in the diary of his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, Dr. Eggman infiltrates a high-security G.U.N. facility in search of it. This "weapon," a black hedgehog named Shadow who claims that he is the "Ultimate Life Form," offers to help Eggman take over the world, telling him to rendezvous with him at the abandoned Space Colony ARK with more Chaos Emeralds. Shadow proceeds in stealing one of the emeralds, and G.U.N. officials mistake him for Sonic. Sonic is apprehended shortly after he confronts Shadow, who demonstrates to Sonic the Chaos Control technique.

Meanwhile, Knuckles confronts both Rouge the Bat and Eggman, who each attempts to steal the Master Emerald. Knuckles shatters the Master Emerald to prevent this, and proceeds to search for the scattered shards and restore the Emerald. While Rouge also intends to collect the shards for personal benefit, she must also accomplish a mission for the government to spy on Eggman. This mission also leads her to the ARK, where Shadow relays to Eggman his plan to use the Chaos Emeralds to charge a superweapon on the ARK called the Eclipse Cannon to take over the world. To accomplish this, Shadow and Eggman recruit Rouge to assist in the search of the Chaos Emeralds.

Tails and Amy infiltrate Prison Island and rescue Sonic from G.U.N., while Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge collect three Emeralds on the island, which they then destroy. Eggman then broadcasts his threats across the planet and demonstrates the cannon's level of power by destroying half of the moon. Sonic and company use the final Emerald within their possession to track down the other six, with Knuckles coming along as well. Together, the group infiltrates Eggman's base, narrowly boarding Eggman's shuttle as it launches into space. Along the ride into space, Knuckles' Master Emerald shards are spilled, and he leaves the group to collect them, encountering Rouge again. During the fight, Knuckles saves Rouge from certain death, and Rouge surrenders her collected shards, finally allowing Knuckles to restore the Master Emerald.

Onboard the ARK, Tails reveals that he has created a counterfeit Chaos Emerald designed to reverse the effects of the real Emeralds and destroy the Eclipse Cannon. Sonic goes to place the fake Emerald into the cannon when Eggman announces he has captured Tails and Amy. Sonic tries to give Eggman the fake Emerald, but at the last second Eggman traps and jettisons Sonic in an escape pod rigged with explosives. Using the fake Emerald, Sonic manages to perform Chaos Control and escape before it explodes, but Tails, thinking Sonic is dead, fights Eggman again. Shadow is sent to intercept Sonic before he destroys the Eclipse Cannon, but Sonic succeeds.

After Eggman collects all seven Chaos Emeralds, Gerald Robotnik's failsafe activates, and a recorded message is broadcast by the late Gerald explaining that the ARK will collide with and destroy the planet Earth. The two sides agree to work together to neutralize the Chaos Emeralds with the Master Emerald and stop the collision. Once there, Sonic and Knuckles encounter the Biolizard, a prototype of the Ultimate Life Form. Shadow defeats the Biolizard, allowing Knuckles to deactivate the Chaos Emeralds. However, the Biolizard revives and uses Chaos Control to fuse with the Eclipse Cannon, continuing the ARK's collision course. Using the power of the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic and Shadow transform into Super Sonic and Super Shadow and defeat the Biolizard for the final time. They then use Chaos Control to place the ARK back into Earth's orbit. In the process, however, Shadow runs out of power and plummets to Earth to his apparent death.

Sonic heroes

Five months after the events of Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes initially sees Sonic off running around the world looking for adventure. Joining up with his friends Tails and Knuckles, who give him a message from Dr. Eggman stating that he will take over the world in three days, Team Sonic is formed and the classic trio head off to stop Eggman's latest plan. But they are not alone on this endeavor, as other characters from the series form their own teams to find Eggman first. The Chaotix Detective Agency has not had a client in a long time and need to pay the rent for the house. Charmy comes flying in with a box containing a walky-talky and become hired by an unknown client to find the Doctor, and they take on the name Team Chaotix. Rouge finds Shadow(who was presumably dead) locked up in a chamber and, however, awakes E123-Omega(also in the same chamber)unknowingly who is mad at Eggman for deactivating him and decides to take revenge on him. When Shadow gains consciousness, E123-Omega shoots all around the place, followed by him saying, "Must eradicate all Eggman's robots." Shadow is then seen jumping wall-to-wall to escape being shot. (as Omega is also aiming at him too.) Rouge breaks up their fight before they kill each other. after that short fight, Rouge decides they should team up to find Eggman and become Team Dark. In the end Rouge finds a room of shadow clones Omega walks in and says the original must exist for these to. (this shadow is the one from adventure 2)

Shadow the hedgehog game

At the beginning of Shadow the Hedgehog, which takes place three months after the events of Sonic Heroes, Shadow remembers only three things: his attempt to escape the space station ARK with Gerald Robotnik's granddaughter Maria, Maria's death by gunshot from G.U.N. soldiers, and his name.[13] He wonders whether he is an android due to hints given in Sonic Heroes.[11] The game begins with Shadow reminiscing outside the city of Westopolis when the Black Arms drop out of the sky and invade it. Doom's Eye approaches Shadow, and Black Doom tells Shadow of an old agreement for Shadow to bring him the Chaos Emeralds.[10][14] Stunned that Black Doom knew his name, Shadow realizes that he must find the Chaos Emeralds to learn his past.[15]

The game progresses through the Westopolis level and five more levels from the different paths Shadow can take. As missions are completed, Shadow learns more of his past.[1][11] He can choose to help the Black Arms or Doctor Eggman (Dark), to help G.U.N. and the series' heroic characters (Hero),[10] or to help neither and keep the Chaos Emeralds for himself (Neutral).[7] The missions completed determine which one of ten possible endings will be seen after Shadow collects all the Chaos Emeralds and defeats one of the game's final bosses.[16] The possible ending events range from planning to defeat the Black Arms[17] to planning to destroy the planet.[18]

Completing all ten endings unlocks a final ending in which Black Doom uses Chaos Control, enhanced by the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds, to bring the Black Comet to Earth. Shadow then confronts Black Doom on the "Black Comet" level, where he discovers that Professor Gerald Robotnik created the ARK's Eclipse Cannon weapon to destroy the Black Comet.[19] During their confrontation, Black Doom attempts to control Shadow through mind control but fails,[20] prompting him to transform into his "Devil Doom" form.[21] In response, Shadow uses the Chaos Emeralds to transform into his "Super Shadow" form and defeats Black Doom.[22] Shadow then transports the Black Comet into outer space using Chaos Control and obliterates it with the ARK's Eclipse Cannon.[23] His friends are elated,[24] as are people at G.U.N. headquarters.[25] Inside the control room of the ARK, Shadow holds an old photograph of Maria and Gerald. He discards the photograph, declaring "Goodbye forever... Shadow the Hedgehog," and he leaves the room.[26]
