Rainbow Notes (sometimes called only Music Notes) are items that appear in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They will usually appear when Mario grabs a Question Coin, afterwards, they will line up, and Mario will need to grab all of them, each of them making different sounds to make a short tune. If the Player gets all of them, Mario will get a prize, like a 1-Up Mushroom. They are also used in a few levels where they need to be collected to get the star, such as the Hurry-Scurry Galaxy and Sea Slide Galaxy.
