These are beta elements from Mario Kart DS.

Beta Elements

Unreleased Courses

You can only access these courses with an Action Replay DS or by ROM Hacking.

  • test_circle

This was a debugging stage not intended to be playable in the release version. However it can still be accessed with textures by ROM Hacking.

  • dokan_course

Starts by going straight then up and round, then comes to a tunnel, then turns right then left over a metal floor. Then it comes to another tunnel which curves then comes back to the start line. Textures can be seen only by ROM Hacking.[1].

  • nokonoko_course

Possibly a new Koopa Troopa Beach course, as nokonoko is the Japanese term for Koopa Troopa. It does not seem to resemble it's predecessor in any way, and could have been an entirely new Koopa Troopa course. Again, textures can be seen by ROM Hacking only.

  • test1_course

This is a very confusing course. It has been discovered that it is only playable by fixing some files, and that the model shown in the course does not fit with the collision file. Instead it is almost a circle but with extra paths leading to nowhere. Objects such as the bridge from Delfino Square and the gears from Tick-Tock Clock appear here. This course can not be accessed by Action Replay, only ROM Hacking.

Changes from the Pre-Release Versions

Demo version guides released for stores by Nintendo depicted the Chain Chomp (which could not actually be retrieved in the demo version itself) as an item; it is presumed that this Chomp item would function simmilarly to that of the Chain Chomps in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. Although the listing of the Chain Chomp in these beta guides may have been a simple mistake, though this is unlikely. The Chain Chomp can be seen in the item roulette in beta versions of the game.

  • It is likely that the Chain Chomps were removed in favor of Bullet Bills.

Courses

  • Waluigi Pinball

Different textures and the music from Yoshi Falls. The slot machine near the end of the level was part of the course for players to drive over. It is assumed the changes in this course are largely due to programming errors.

  • Waluigi Pinball Beta (pinball_course)

Textures from the Tart Top battle arena on the floor and bumpers, as well as other changes[2]. Some demo copies show many differences, such as more bumpers and a less direct launch towards the beginning.

Exactly the same but missing fireballs and crowd cheering. The real Wario Stadium is called stadium_course.

  • Unused Donkey Kong Grassland Course (donkey_course)

Uses a grassland theme, possibly to be more thematic with it's associated charter. One lone Thwomp near the finish line, as well as many other small differences mostly regarding walls and jumps.[3] The final release DK Pass is called snow_course.
