Revision as of 21:33, June 13, 2011
This article is under construction. Therefore, please excuse its informal appearance while it is being worked on. We hope to have it completed by June 16, 2011.
Template:Level Lava Lagoon is the eighth level of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. It is also the third area of Crocodile Cauldron in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and and the third area of Krem Cauldron in Donkey Kong Land 2.
This level takes place in the cargo hold of a crashed Kremling galleon, which is full of boiling hot water that the Kongs cannot swim through safely. Fortunately, Clapper the Seal is located all around the level to cool down the water to a survivable temperature for both Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. The water stays cool only for a limited amount of time, so the Kongs cannot waste any time while in the liquid. This level is also populated by Neeks, Klampons, Flotsams, Lockjaws, Puftups, Kaboings and Click-Clacks, who are not affected by the hot water.
Level Layout
Donkey Kong Country 2
From the start of the stage, the Kongs must travel east and jump across a small gap with lava in it. Not long after, they meet Clapper, who cools down the water so they can swim through it. The two Kongs must then swim across or go on a few crates where an enemy is to reach yet another Clapper. After quickly moving through the water, the Kongs have to jump over two small gaps and meet the third Clapper. Once he cools down the water, Diddy and Dixie can, like before, swim trough the water to reach their next destination. When they are out of the liquid, they go into a barrel that shoots them up to the next part of the level. From here, they must both travel west and jump on the fourth Clapper, cooling down the water. Underwater, the primates have to avoid several enemies until back up in the surface, where they find the Star Barrel.
Halfway through the level, Diddy and Dixie must continue to travel west and jump on the fifth Clapper. After jumping in the cooled-down water, the heroes must avoid two enemies and quickly jump out of the water, which quickly rises as they run to the sixth Clapper, who, as usual, cools down the water. In the water, they have to avoid many Lockjaws. Once out of the water, the Kongs need to travel east and move across several crates until they meet the seventh Clapper, who cools down to water again. In the liquid, the two monkeys avoid even more enemies and then travel upwards and meet another Clapper cooling down the water. After swimming north more, the Kongs can finally find the exit and finish the level.
Donkey Kong Land 2
From the start of the level, the monkeys must jump on the first Clapper, who cools down the water. When it is safe to go in, the heroes need to quickly jump in the liquid and swim to the other side of the pool, before the water heats up and burns them. They then go east across the crates and jump on the second Clapper. When that water is cooled, the group can swim through. On the way, there is a barrel with Enguarde in it. They can break it and turn into the fish. The animals must then swim slightly south, and then go east, until a dead end is reached. After that, the group should move north, but before the water heats up. They soon cross a "No Enguarde" sign, causing them to lose Enguarde, and then jump up onto more luggage. The monkeys should then jump on the third Clapper, who, yet again, cools down the hot liquid. The apes should hop into the pool and swim around. Enguarde can be found again straight down through the water to ride through it faster. When the pool's exit is found, the heroes cross another "No Enguarde" sign and lose the swordfish. There is another Clapper nearby, whom the monkeys must jump to cool down the warm water. When the liquid is at a good temperature, they need to go through it again and swim around the crates, avoiding underwater pests, such as Flotsams. Once out of the water, the heroes can break the Star Barrel.
Halfway through the level, the group must jump on another Clapper and cool down the water. When they jump in the liquid, then need to swim in a large U shape around the luggage, following some bananas on the way. Once out, the Kongs should go east and go down to the next Clapper. When in the water, they need to, yet again, swim in a U shape and hop out of the water, going to the right. Another Clapper is waiting nearby, who cools down the water. The heroes must move through the liquid quickly, watching out for more underwater enemies, such as Lockjaws and Flotsams. Finally, the monkeys should find their way out of the water and jump on a spring leading out of the level.

Bonus Level
- After the Kongs pass the No Animal Sign with Enguarde pictured on it, they can find a barrel that they must use to bust open the side of the crate that it sits on. Once they enter the opening created in the crate, they are sent to the level's only Bonus Level, where they can find Enguarde and a long path between many large crates and barrels ahead of them. As they head through the long and curvy area, they must use Enguarde to defeat 10 different enemies, including Flotsams and Puftups. Once they reach the end of the area, they can find a No Animal Sign; when they pass this sign, Enguarded disappears, but they are also given a Banana Bunch (or a red Extra Life Balloon in the Game Boy Advance version of the game). If the primates have defeated all 10 enemies within 35 seconds, they can find a Kremkoin after they pass the sign to collect within the remaining time.
DK Coin
- The DK Coin is near the end of the level where the final Clapper is located. After hitting the seal, the Kongs must travel into a thin alcove to the right of the Animal Buddy and then head downwards through some crates to reach a hidden area. Here, they can find an Invincibility Barrel and a DK Barrel, followed by a trail of bananas that lead up to a DK Coin.
Warp Barrel
- When the heroes reach the first Klampon in the level, they must use their Team-up move at the edge of the platform it is located on and throw one another straight up into the air. If they throw one another in the correct spot, a Warp Barrel appears and sends them into a Bonus Level, where they can find a group of bananas that form an exclamation mark. By walking to the rightmost side of the area, they can exit the Bonus Level and be lead to the end of the level next to the End of Level Target.
Golden Feather (Game Boy Advance version only)
- The Golden Feather is hidden near the end of the level shortly before the final Clapper in the level. If they head above the last two Puftups in the level and feel along the crates above them, they can find a pair of crates that they are able to jump through to reach a hidden area with the Golden Feather in it.
Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only)
- After the primates hit the second Clapper after the Star Barrel, they must head to the left and then swim upwards. If they keep swimming upwards and brush against a few crates in the corner of the area, they can go through the wall. They have to make their way through a narrow path between several crates, until they swim under a small alcove with a Lockjaw in it. A camera icon is above its head, indicating that it is in possession of a photograph. After they swim through some crates to reach the alcove, they must use Enguarde to defeat the enemy. Once it is defeated, they are given a picture of a Lockjaw for the fourth page of their scrapbook.

Bonus Levels
- Near the end of the third pool of water, the Kongs should see a Puftup next to a crate. If they swim behind the foe, they suddenly appear inside of a Bonus Barrel, which sends them into a Bonus Level, where they must travel through an underwater maze between many large crates and barrels. If they manage to grab the Kremkoin hidden in the northeast part of the maze within 20 seconds, they complete the bonus successfully.
- The Kongs should travel to the left immediately after exiting the fifth pool of water to find a Bonus Barrel against the wall. The barrel can send them to a Bonus Level, where they must carefully swim through an underwater area while watching out for Flotsams. If they reach the end of the area before the time limit of 20 seconds runs out, or before they are attacked by an enemy, they can find a Kremkoin to grab within the remaining time.
DK Coin
- To find the DK Coin, the group must first swim through the fifth pool of water, which is located just after the Star Barrel. They should eventually reach a group of bananas in the formation of an arrow pointing up. Instead of following the arrow, they should continue east and then go north through a passage to find the hidden DK Coin.
