During battle, Mummipokey attacks by popping out of the ground in various places and by spitting projectile balls. The height of how far Mummipokey protrudes ranges from two to five segments, including the head. The time he stays surfaced is dependent on his size: the longer the segments are exposed, the longer Mummipokey stays surfaced. Mummipokey can be damaged from [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]] [[jump]]ing onto his head. Alternatively, he can be [[Ground Pound]]ed, dealing the amount of damage equivalent to jumping on Mummipokey twice, or have [[fireball]]s shot at him. While Mario or Luigi is in his [[Mini Mario (form)|mini]] form, Ground Pounding is the only way he can hurt Mummipokey, and it doesn't deal double damage like in regular form.
