Mametchi is a character from Tamagotchi, a chain of egg-shaped virtual pet toys produced by Bandai that have since established a franchise spanning over 20 years, including adaptations to other media such as video games, merchandise, and Tamagotchi! (anime). On most Tamagotchi releases, Mametchi is the result of a Tamagotchi with the best possible care, and has been portrayed as a well-mannered and intelligent Tamagotchi with an IQ of 250. Mametchi was initially one of several faces, but gradually became the mascot of the Tamagotchi franchise.

Mametchi's first (and currently only) appearance in the Super Mario franchise is in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, where he is a playable guest driver presumably added to coincide with Bandai's then-recent merger with Namco. He is categorized as an Easy Control driver, sharing stats with Ms. Pac-Man and Toad. His special items are Bagubagutchi, Mame Block, Chibi Syrup, Mame Drink, and Giant Pencil, and his voice clips imitate the beeping sound effect heard in Tamagotchi virtual pets.
Mametchi is a character from Bandai's handheld digital pet toy called a Tamagotchi, which housed in a small and simple egg-shaped computer.

As with the other drivers, in addition to a standard kart, Mametchi gets a unique vehicle that slightly reduces acceleration in exchange for increased speed. Mametchi's unique vehicle loosely resembles a Tamagotchi virtual pet that is pulled by a wheeled mechanical Tamagotchi wearing a Kasa.
Mametchi appears in the crossover Mario game Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 as a playable character in light of Namco's recent merge with Bandai. In this game, Mametchi is a speed type character like Ms. Pac-Man and Toad. Three of Mametchi's special items he can obtain during gameplay is a Mame Block, a Bagubagutchi, or a Chipi Syrup.

Stadium Arena and Waluigi Stadium of the Waluigi Cup also feature several Tamagotchi-themed advertisements, including cameo appearances of Mametchi's tamagotchi, tamagotchi, and tamagotchi.
Mametchi, along with Ms. Pac-Man and Blinky, doesn't make a reappearance in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX.

In the typical Tamagotchi virtual pets, Mametchi speaks his own language – Tamagotchi. He uses words such as 'bee', 'bop' and 'bip'. The sounds that he emits make reference to the beeping sounds that the Tamagotchi devices make whenever the player is pressing on the buttons, which are referenced in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2. Not all Tamagotchi characters speak the same language though, as a common child character known as Kuribotchi sounds like 'ba bu ba bu'.

Not all Tamagotchi media depicts Mametchi speaking the Tamagotchi speech either. An example is the Tamagotchi! anime TV series, which depicts Mametchi and the other Tamagotchi characters speaking the human language.

*The Japan-only Nintendo 64 game tamagotchi, which was released 10 years prior to Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, features unlockable adult Tamagotchis based on Mario and Wario, named tamagotchi and tamagotchi respectively. The game has similar gameplay to the Mario Party series, was released a year prior to the first Mario Party game, and was also developed by Hudson Soft.
*Prior to Mametchi's playable appearance in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, the Nintendo 64 game Tamagotchi 64: Minna de Tamagotchi World features "Rare Special" adult Tamagotchis based on Mario and Wario, named Mariotchi and Waruotokotchi respectively.
*On the track Waluigi Stadium, there are signs referring to Mametchi's family, the Mame Family, showing Mametchi, his parents, Mamametchi and Papamametchi, his little sister, Chamametchi, and the item Bagubagutchi.
**On the same track, there's also signs referring to the Tamagotchi Planet, Mametchi's home planet, and other Tamagotchi characters, showing Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, Makiko, Violetchi (or Flowertchi) and Grippatchi (or Ms. Perfect). Words stating "We Love Mametchi" are also displayed on the latter sign.
*Not counting some Costume Mario outfits in Super Mario Maker, Mametchi is the only non-Nintendo character who made an appearance in any Mario game that didn't originate as a video game character, originating from a virtual pet instead.
