SMW is a crude-looking game anyways with examples such as six-legged Spike Tops, Cheep Cheeps with extra fins and Blurps lacking fins. And if the big fish really is Boss Bass, then logically as Cheep was redesigned and got smaller pupils in the process, the big one would get similar treatment for proportional reasons since the bottom set makes it look like it's on speed and Porpupuffer's slanted irises are pretty small themselves.
