F.L.U.D.D talks about the Shine Gate's significance.
In Super Mario Sunshine, the Shine Gate is located in Delfino Plaza and has a huge Shine Sprite in it. Shadow Mario painted black goop all over the Giant Shine, causing other Shine Sprites to run away. Mario cleaned off the giant shine by using F.L.U.D.D's rocket nozzle to get there and standard F.L.U.D.D squirting to clean off the giant shine and reveal another Shine Sprite as well as an entrance to Pianta Village. Despite the giant shine being cleaned off Mario will still have to collect the rest of the Shine Sprites.
