There are 16 playable characters available in the game. Of those characters, [[Rosalina]] and [[Pauline]] are playable for the first time in the ''Mario Strikers'' series, while [[Toad]], [[Shy Guy]], and [[Birdo]] are now selectable as team captains after previously being sidekicks.
