First seen in Super Mario World, a Star Marker is a shining star that sits on the map. Standing on one would transport Mario or Luigi to or from Star Road.
Later seen again in Super Mario 64 (and subsequent remakes), these marked the spot where a Power Star would appear after Mario collected all eight Red Coins.
