Mary rhymes with hairy. mario is pronounced with an A as in can or cat. in america it is pronounced with an ar as in car. neither the american pronunciation nor the correct italian pronunciation of Mario sounds like the correct pronunciation of Mary.

Some people pronounce Mario the same way Americans (and maybe other English speakers) pronounce "Marionette" or "Marion", and yes, some people actually do pronounce Mario like that.
