The Gate Handle is an item in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It is found deep within the Pirate's Grotto. Upon finding it, Mario must bring it to a closed gate inside the Pirate's Grotto. By using the Gate Handle, the gate will lift open, and Mario will be able to move on.

Another handle referred as Floodgate Handle is also found inside the Pirate's Grotto. It's uses to operate the floodgate. Once open, Mario can use the Boat Mode to sail through and reach Cortez's ship. The handle is on one of the wrecked ships floating in the water.
