Name[edit]

For future reference, the SMG Prima guide doesn't seem to mention this enemy at all, while the SMG2 Prima guide, only seems to refer to them as generic Topmen: "Use the Topman to bounce up to this ledge." If necessary, we could do the same thing we did for Lava Bubble (blue), only with "Topman (spring)" or something. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Alternatively, this could potentially be the true "base" Topman, similar to how the Octo Army has a distinct and odd variation as its "base species". I don't think this is a case like Koopas, where there is no true base species. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:48, 16 September 2017 (EDT)
There is evidence in the game files that "Spring Topman" is to be considered the "base" species, as the spawner for this type is just called "BegomanLauncher" (although the object itself is "BegomanSpring"). Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. does have the Japanese name 「バネベーゴマン」 (128 & 161), so we should either merge this article to the current Topman article (which I honestly don't think needs to exist) or rename it to Bane Bēgoman (preferable to a conjectural title but still not an English name). LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:40, 9 December 2017 (EST)
We can move the current Topman article to "Topman Tribe" and move this one to "Topman," after all, we have an article for the Ready-Bots. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:48, 9 December 2017 (EST)
Good call, "Topman Tribe" does check out. As long as the article is reframed so readers don't get the impression "Topman Tribe" is the base species. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:59, 9 December 2017 (EST)
Topman Tribe is currently a redirect to the standard Topman, though it could be changed to include every member. Topman should probably remain as is, though I'd be for moving Spring Topman to Bane Begoman until an English name is found. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:10, 9 December 2017 (EST)
Yeah, on second thought, changing this article to "Topman" would just be extra work until(?) the English release of Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:30, 9 December 2017 (EST)
Actually, wait, I didn't realize Spiky Topman was a thing. That and Topman existing together seems redundant. Topman should be moved to Topman Tribe and rewritten, imo. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:17, 9 December 2017 (EST)
The best thing to do is to rename it into Topman (spring). I'm for renaming it. --An unused sprite of Vivian in Super Paper Mario. FanOfYoshiArtwork of Rainbow Mario from Super Mario Galaxy. 09:55, 15 January 2019 (EST)
We should possibly find further evidences that this is the base species, and not Spiky Topman. (cur | prev) 17:33, 30 May 2009 Icytriforc (talk | contribs) m . . (19 bytes) (+19) . . My point is that the hole was either supposed to spawn more types than just the Spring Topman during the developpement, or that was generic. --An unused sprite of Vivian in Super Paper Mario. FanOfYoshiArtwork of Rainbow Mario from Super Mario Galaxy. 12:54, June 16, 2019 (EDT)
