The player starts out on a flat surface, where the [[raft (New Super Mario Bros. 2)|raft]] is docked on the [[lava]]. After jumping on the moving platform in the first half, a few [[Buzzy Beetle]]s are encountered, moving around on rotating Brick Block structures. When the player approaches the structures, they fold out at a 90-degree angle, dropping the Buzzy Beetles onto the platform. Soon after, Thwomps appear. The player can bait these Thwomps into crashing into lava, destroying them. Shortly after, the [[Checkpoint Flag]] appears along with two ? Blocks, one of which has a Super Leaf inside. Another raft is docked here. Throughout the second half, the raft quickly approaches a quad of fireball arches that travel in an arch shape and the second Star Coin rotating above.
