The Three Current Competitors

Here is a comparison of the three current video game competitors, and what I think of them.

Nintendo

Doesn't take a genius to know this is my favorite of the three. In fact, Nintendo is the most popular of the three current competitors. They definitely deserve this role, too. Nintendo has the largest amount of unique titles, such as Mario and The Legend of Zelda, and they always focus on what a Video Game console is about - Video Games. Their lack of extra features, such as DVD Players and Music CD Players, lowers their console prices, and allows people to fully enjoy the video game experience, something I've always appreciated out of the company. Nintendo also has the best gameplay of all the three competitors, as seen in their Seventh-Generation consoles, the Wii and the Nintendo DS. Nintendo proves to us that a video game console can be the best it can without the best graphics or most amount of extra features. Some of the best games in history have come from Nintendo as well, as Nintendo tends to look at every aspect of the game first before release, normally preventing most mistakes that would ruin the games reception, as seen with Masahiro Sakurai's work on the Super Smash Bros. series. Nintendo's main issue, however, is a lack of voice acting, as well as a lack of violent games, like Konami's Metal Gear Solid series. Overall, Nintendo is the best of the best, and I have barely ever seen a problem with them. I can easily see Nintendo lasting for many years to come.

Sony

Sony isn't as good as Nintendo, but, it is the lesser of two evils (Microsoft being the greatest evil). I've always thought Sony is everything Nintendo is, but not as good, with a few little add-ons that make it less as good. The one thing that Sony has that is better than Nintendo is graphics, with Sony containing the best graphics of the three. Sony, although not as much as Nintendo, also has a rather large range of unique video game series, including Konami's Metal Gear Solid, Square Enix's Final Fantasy, and Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank. However, Sony's gameplay is lacking, always circling around merely pushing buttons. However, their games have always been pretty good in bringing the best out of this 'boring' style of gameplay. I've also noted that Sony has made some of the best games in history as well, marking it as Nintendo's biggest rival of the three competitors. However, one thing that really ruins Sony's consoles is the fact they always feature many extra features, such as a Music CD Player or a Blu-Ray DVD Player. Not only do these take away the focus of a Video Game console, they boost the price of the consoles up really high, to prices that can only be met by the wealthy. Like I say, Video Game consoles are for Video Games, not DVD Players. However, Sony is rather good in ranging themselves from cute and lovable video games, to violent and gorey games, and they also have a good voice acting history. However, even their more kid-friendly games have been known to have the occasional swear in it, which has made me a bit upset that they can't hold back. Despite all these good attributes, Sony can be summarized in one word - Cheapskate. Sony are too much for the money, which is a bad quality. Overall, I can definitely see Sony living for another 10-15 years, before they finally crash, and start work for Nintendo.

Microsoft

Microsoft, in my opinion, is the complete worst of the three. Mainly because Microsoft is a HUGE American company, that has bigger things to worry about than video games. And them being American only makes things worse, as they don't know the proper video game skills that the Japanese have. Their focus is put towards more important matters, so the X-Box series of consoles can be considered 'low quality'. Their graphics aren't the best of the three, but most say its graphics are better than Nintendo's console graphics. I do not agree on this, and I believe that Nintendo has more smoother graphics than Microsoft, at the very least. Like Sony, Microsoft's gameplay is merely pushing buttons, but the gameplay just doesn't feel as active as Sony. In fact, the only new add-on to the X-Box 360's controller as far as I've seen is that its wireless. Microsoft also lacks a good amount of unique series, with their biggest franchise being Halo. In fact, I can barely think of any popular series that are Microsoft-only. A testament to Microsoft's lame range of games, as well as their poor game quality. Note, a lot of the worst games in history have been Microsoft-only, Sonic the Hedgehog, Bomberman: Act Zero, and Fuzion Frenzy 2. Microsoft aren't too big on quality, and also rush game production too much. But, I have to say, they aren't as big on extra features as Sony is, and Microsoft was the first of the three competitors to feature Online Play. And their range from child-friendly games to voilent games is rather good, as is their voice acting history. I still do not see Microsoft continuing in the video game path for long, and I suspect they will either fall and become third-party, or completely cancel their video game work for good.
