They are darker than their ordinary counterparts, have small hands and originally held a spear. They typically pace back and forth and do not fall off unless pushed or thrown. Their spears are pointed forward, so [[Wario]] must avoid hitting them from the front.

In ''[[Wario Land II]]'', three nameless Pirate Gooms are introduced as [[Captain Syrup]]'s sidekicks that steal the treasure of [[Wario Castle]]. They also received a change in appearance: they now wear striped bandannas, they have lighter color, and they now wield tridents. The [[giant spear man]], an abnormally large Pirate Goom, is fought several times and serves as the game's "[[Steal the Syrup's treasure!!#Final Boss Battle: Giant spear man|really final]]" boss.
