Big Top is the talking hat of MC Ballyhoo, and serves as his co-host in the Wii game Mario Party 8. Big Top not only has the ability of speech, but also has a mind of his own. He later shared a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with Ballyhoo.

Big Top is MC Ballyhoo's hat and serves as his cohost in Mario Party 8. He also holds all of the coins for Chump Charity, stating that he was glad to get the load off his head. Big Top not only has the ability of speech but is also his own separate entity. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, he shares a trophy with Ballyhoo. Big Top's name comes from a phrase referring to large circus tents. The "Top" part of his name is also a reference to the fact that he is a top hat. His appearance bears a resemblance to the Bonneter, but he is not confirmed to be a member of the species.
What Big Top stores
Despite his size, Big Top can hold a number of things inside of himself.

Big Top is a dark-blue top hat with a strip of light blue close to the rim. He has a small mouth and two differently colored eyes: one teal, one pink. His eyes have rather big eyelashes.
* Coins and Coin Bags (Chump Charity)
* Tic-Tac Balls (Tic-Tac-Drop)
* Star Rod (end of Star Battle)
* Year's supply of Candy on a platform.
*Big Top also pops a propeller out of his head when Ballyhoo must take flight.

Big Top and MC Ballyhoo appear as a Novice class spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Trophy Information from Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The two emcees of the Star Carnival, an event held once a year to determine the biggest superstar. Big Top (on top) and Ballyhoo (on bottom) provide all Star Carnival commentary, and while Ballyhoo is energetic and over the top, Big Top provides a reserved counterpoint to his partner's antics. Despite their conflicting personalities, they're inseparable.

Trivia
<gallery>
*Big Top is named after "big top", an alternate word for "carnival". The "Top" part of his name is also likely a reference to the fact that he is a hat.
