A few months ago, I uploaded a few screenshots of [[Nintendo 3DS|3DS]] games like [[Augmented Reality Games|AR Games]] and [[Nintendo 3DS#Face Raiders|Face Raiders]] with 3D data in them (I will do this again soon). My idea is to create a indicator in {{tem|Aboutfile}} so people see it has 3D data in it. See my draft page for the result. Example images: [[:File:GiantARcard.jpg|GiantARcard.jpg]], [[:File:Face Raiders Gameplay.jpg|FaceRaiderGameplay.JPG]] and [[:File:HNI 0001.JPG|HNI 0001.JPG]].

:::Well, there's a bit of text on the top of the page. The least we can do is put an aboutfile template (raw text) there for easy access. However, if it's possible, we can code the text in the field. Also, it should be possible to generate a preview for the textfield as well. {{User:LeftyGreenMario/sig}} 19:16, 18 March 2012 (EDT)

===Provide a Premade Aboutfile Template===
''While this template is ''optional'' for image summaries, it works very well and its use is encouraged.''
''...<nowiki>{{aboutfile}}</nowiki> is important because it shows a description and the source of an image.''
If this wiki strongly encourages the use of aboutfiles, then why don't we make it easier for users to access it? One of the few ways to find these templates is to look in the Help Section, click on the templates link, click on notice template, find the aboutfile template, then copy the coding. Another way to do it is to find an image with an aboutfile template and copy the coding. This can be somewhat arduous, especially for newer users. Most of the time, however, many users aren't aware of this template. I, for one, uploaded pictures without the aboutfile template until later.
If we strongly encourage its use, why do we have to keep it almost invisible to users? This doesn't really make any sense. We don't make any mention of it in the Upload file page. We have to code the whole template by itself, but for me, it took some practice to get it right without looking at the help page. However, we think the aboutfile template is important, since ''we have a section in the Maintenance page that includes images without aboutfile templates''. If we want to keep pages that link from the Maintenance section to a minimum, then we should try to attempt a smaller flow of these pages.
We have a premade Proposals template, which I think is wonderful because it makes creating a proposal much easier. We also show users how to link new images to a page. We try to tell users what to do when they create Featured Article Nominations. Why not show them how to create an aboutfile template? I think we should apply the template's format in the [[Special:Upload|Upload File]] page somewhere. It could be in the text above the writing field. We can show
<nowiki>{{aboutfile|1=[Subject of the image]|2=[Where you found the image]|3=[Artist]|4=[Describe edits, if any]|5=[Other versions (use [[:File:File.ext]])}}</nowiki>
or
<nowiki>{{aboutfile|summary|external link}}</nowiki>
We can put them above the editing field and tell users who upload images that the template is important but not required. This way, we encourage users even more to use the template.
The coding will also help more experienced users such as me because, well, constantly typing <nowiki>{{aboutfile|Blah blah blah from ''Blah Blah Blah''}}</nowiki> does get repetitive and tiring. The values I get to see on the same page also helps me know what each value stands for without my clicking on several links to get there.
If we put a premade template in the page, we encourage the use of the template even more. Again, most users probably had not known that aboutfiles are very important to this wiki, including me. I want to increase the awareness of such a useful template and I want to fulfill our goal of strongly encouraging use of this template.

#{{User|LeftyGreenMario}} Sorry for the lengthy proposal, but I'm proposing to put a premade raw aboutfile text to increase usuability for aboutfiles. Since we strongly encourage aboutfiles, we should help users how to make one. Then, we'll see more use of it. The only problem I see is how to edit the [[Special:Upload|Upload File]] page, but it's not an impossibility.
#{{User|RandomYoshi}} – I don't see any harm in doing this, because it will make it easier for the uploaders to get the {{tem|aboutfile}} there in the first place. As for editing it to show that, see my comment.
#{{User|Super Famicom 64}} – Per proposal, it would make {{[[Template:Aboutfile|aboutfile]]}} more useful.
#{{User|Lakituthequick}} Although we need to find a way to get the info on the page for non-English users, the idea is good.
#{{User|ThePremiumYoshi}} Per proposal. This template will be used much more frequently.
#{{User|Bowser's luma}} Per all

How can we implement this? {{User:BabyLuigiOnFire/sig}}
:Well, I stated that we can edit the [[Special:Upload|Upload File]] page, but the problem is, it's not editable. However, if we can put text in that page, we can put a raw, text-only template in there as well. It shouldn't be impossible to edit that page somehow. {{User:LeftyGreenMario/sig}} 01:06, 19 March 2012 (EDT)
::LGM, first, it's [[Special: Upload]], not Upload File (so I fixed it....again). Second we should probably ask Steve or the administrators about this. I don't know how we can modify it. {{User:BabyLuigiOnFire/sig}}
:::There are pages in the MediaWiki namespace which change displayed texts on the wiki. The text on the upload page is in [[MediaWiki:Uploadtext]]. The only problem is it only changes the English text, so it doesn't affect me as a Dutch user. {{User:Lakituthequick/sig}}
::::Since the page used for uploading images and such is a [[:Special:SpecialPages|Special Page]], only {{user|Porplemontage}} can edit it. If this proposal was to pass, then it would only require telling him about the necessary changes that are to be applied to the page. {{User:RandomYoshi/sig}} 12:52, 19 March 2012 (EDT)
Lakituthequick: I hope we can find a way to include users like you. I suppose Porplemontage can edit it, but I want a consent first, and maybe awareness. {{User:LeftyGreenMario/sig}} 19:31, 19 March 2012 (EDT)
:I did some research, and found that the non-English text on [[MediaWiki:Uploadtext]]/''<nowiki>[enter languagecode here]</nowiki>''. It would be time consuming to edit every single subpage of [[MediaWiki:Uploadtext]], so we have to find another way. {{User:Lakituthequick/sig}}
I'm not sure how the different language codes work, but aren't templates universal? Is there a way to include the template automatically on the pages somewhere? 00:08, 21 March 2012 (EDT){{Unsigned|LeftyGreenMario}}
:Templates are universal, yes. Languagecodes are unique for each language, for example Dutch has NL ('''N'''eder'''L'''ands), English EN ('''EN'''glish) and Spanish ES ('''ES'''pañol). I did some research yesterday, but I not yet found a way to automatically add it. I am still looking, but I also have school, so it may take a little more time. {{User:Lakituthequick/sig}}
::I finally found out how to auto-add it! Go to [[User:Lakituthequick/Draft|my draft page]] to see what must be done. It works for non-English users as well. {{User:Lakituthequick/sig}}
:::That's cool! It's awesome how you can figure out how to do it. {{User:BabyLuigiOnFire/sig}}

== New parameter ==
There are previous comments concerning how users tend to be fond of substituting the "Source" parameter with "Game Screenshot is taken in". The problem is that it does nothing to tell us where the users took the picture. Do you think the "Source" parameter should be changed to "Source/Game" or something like that to avoid further mislabeling? [[Special:Contributions/173.55.155.46|173.55.155.46]] 15:05, 10 March 2013 (EDT)
:I always had the problem with the "source" some people seem to be using. Listing the game as a "source" is NOT a source. The screenshot has to be taken from somewhere. If you took the screenshot or ripped the sprites yourself, say so in the source. Otherwise, just list the game it was taken on in the "Subject" area. {{User:BabyLuigiOnFire/sig}}
::Maybe you should make a proposal about this? [[Special:Contributions/173.55.155.46|173.55.155.46]] 15:16, 10 March 2013 (EDT)
:::I'm not sure if this warrants a TPP or not. {{User:BabyLuigiOnFire/sig}}
::::It at least warranted more discussion before changes were made. Anyway, the admins discussed it behind the scenes and I've updated the page accordingly. Our stance is the same as yours: the game should only be listed as the source if you got the image directly from the game. Making the parameter "source/game" looks bad, however (always avoid slashes), and there's many other types of original sources besides games anyway (you could scan something from a manual, take a screen cap of a video, etc.), so I changed it back. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 09:41, 24 March 2013 (EDT)
== Align section titles to the top row in each section ==
Can this be done please? Given the lack of borders inside the table, snapping "Description", "Source" etc. to the top row would help make each section more discernible, especially when their content is... how do I put it... {{media link|MvDK NS promo pic w GBA version.jpg|ginormous}}. {{User:Koopa con Carne/Sig}} 13:32, February 20, 2024 (EST)
