:Yes, a minigame in new super mario bros features a red, blue, yellow, or green bob-omb trying to not explode, you play as it dodging fireballs, lava, and a gray bowser statue. Toadbrigade5(Apologies for not loging in)

I noticed the current quote is referring to the Bob-omb Buddy in SMG2 rather than a regular Bob-omb. Is there a quote we can change it to that is more relevant? 12:59, 8 October 2017 (EDT)

Can the quote be changed to
? While this doesn't say that much about them, the current one says nothing. At least this one has the explosion theme, but the current one is just Bob-ombs calling for help. --Magma. (talk) 14:11, July 26, 2020 (EDT)

While the current quote isn't too bad, I have an idea for a good quote for the top of the page: . <br>This comes from one of the Bob-ombs boarding Bowser's airship, and I think this quote describes the general role of Bob-ombs quite well. 12:09, June 3, 2021 (EDT)
::There's nothing really inherent in their design that indicates that they do it for fun like the other quote suggests, so I'd be for it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:54, December 13, 2021 (EST)
:::I think this is better than the current one, personally. -- 20:34, January 17, 2022 (EST)
::::I would support changing it to this quote as well, as I feel it does a better job of acting as a general description of Bob-ombs that the current quote. -- 20:44, January 17, 2022 (EST)
With the Super Mario RPG remake out, an even better quote has come along: "Watch out. I'm gonna explode. It'll hurt." - their Thought Peek quote (which in the original game was "Ouch! Hey, watch it!") 20:40, November 22, 2023 (EST)
:Eh, I still think the TOK one is better. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:07, November 22, 2023 (EST)
::I like the brevity of the Super Mario RPG one. 02:57, November 23, 2023 (EST)
Split SMB2 version from the rest of the page?
As listed on the page, the Japanese version of the Bob-omb from Super Mario Bros. 2 is called "Bobu" in Japan, differentiating it from "Bomuhei", the name used for the enemy ever since. From what I've found, the two are treated as completely separate enemies in Japan, and it seems like the English name for the SMB2 enemy was used to refer to the SMB3 enemy as well, and it stuck. Would that justify splitting the SMB2 enemy into a page like "Bob-omb (Super Mario Bros. 2)" or something?
Apparently there's something in the Japanese manual for Mario 3 that makes note of the connection between the two enemies, but otherwise, they're treated as totally separate entities despite the similarities. Pretty much everything else I've found indicates that "Bob-ombs" as we know them are treated as first appearing in Mario 3 in Japanese sources, apparently the Smash Bros. Melee trophy listing them as having first appeared in Mario 2 was also altered in localization and lists Super Mario World as their first appearance instead in Japan. I'm on the fence about whether splitting them would be a good idea, as I think there's a pretty solid case for both sides, but I wanted to know what other people think. :Doc and I discussed this, and I think we agree that the Super Mario Bros. 3 info essentially killed that idea. At the time of its initial release, Super Mario USA would not be released in Japan for years. The Japanese manual clearly alludes to the enemy being from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic in the untranslated third sentence, which was understandably simplified in the English version with the same name previously used in the western Super Mario Bros. 2 to get the same point across. Outside of the Mario rebrand, both appearances are fairly identical, especially with the keyless ones exploding on their own after several seconds. Note that Super Mario Bros. 3 seems to be a little more shy than Super Mario World would later be about borrowing Doki Doki Panic elements, as Lava Lotus also seems to be based on Panser. Additionally, even though several source books generally have a few minor issues, we know of at least one that also considers them one and the same. Super Smash Bros. series trophies were never strictly about listing the debut in Japanese, by the way, but rather listing whichever appearances were deemed notable, which is why there are perceived errors in the English version (Melee for example stripped it down to one, giving the wrong impression). Consider also that it wasn't until for Wii U that any trophies acknowledged Doki Doki Panic, and Nintendo has a (frankly outdated) way of segregating game chronology by region instead of worldwide overall, so believing that the Japanese (Mario) debut was Super Mario Bros. 3 is technically correct by some standards. Look at 1.1.14. It says "Super Mario Maker SUBSERIES". Why does it say that, when we don't split Super Mario (series) into subseries? SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) 13:35, March 26, 2024 (CST)
