*Bosses are more difficult, such as having different attacks. Chauncey's rocking horses, for example, are much bigger and swerve left to right, instead of going straight, while his beach balls spawn from the near side of the bed instead of the far side. Bogmire's attacks remain mostly the same, but he and his clones move and attack much faster. Another example is the Boolossus battle, in which the player rides around on the Poltergust 3000's wheels while trying to pop Boolossus, which makes movement more slippery.

*Boos are usually more agile and difficult to catch. Most of them have more HP, although some have the same, and some have less. The ones with less HP are often much faster and can leave a room in seconds, or cross a room within a second to round Luigi and attack him from behind, especially in Area 4.

*Fewer hearts are available. Locations that have hearts in the Normal Mansion do not have them. Hearts that heal 50 HP exist in the Courtyard by vacuuming the Slim Bankshot-like statue, and rarely in the Foyer when checking the drawer.

*Speedy Spirits and Gold Mice always drop a Blue Diamond when caught, raising the maximum possible amount of money from 142,390,000G to 186,440,000G. Because the amount of money required for an A rank was increased to 150,000,000G (instead of 100,000,000G in the NTSC version), this means the Hidden Mansion is necessary to play through in order to get an A rank.

Concepts for Luigi's Mansion, such as character designs, were being planned during the Nintendo 64's lifetime. Many rooms had different names in one or more early builds; for example, the Foyer was originally called the "Entrance". The Poltergust 3000 used to have a pressure meter and, if it overheated, the Poltergust 3000 would ignite and injure Luigi. The Poltergust's shape is also more rectangular in one or more early versions.

Notable mistakes and errors
*During some cutscenes or mission result screens, the lighting and special effects will vanish at random. For example, when Luigi is confronting King Boo, it is possible that the cutscene won't add the crystal glow effect when King Boo charges his crown. It is unknown what causes this and it seems to occur randomly. The glitch ends after the cutscene. During the mission results screen, certain parts, like the speaker, go missing at random. This is most noticeable in the Old Clockworks and Treacherous Mansion boss fights. The Old Clockworks is missing the "screen glow" effect, and Treacherous Mansions speaker will vanish.
*During the Poltergeist's introduction cutscene, the piano keys on the far left are falling through the piano. This mistake happens when the Gold Spiders and Mice are captured as they are part of the cutscene.
*During the cutscene after beating the Grouchy Possessor and after talking with E. Gadd, E. Gadd's theme sometimes plays over the cutscene as the single spider scares Luigi.
*In some copies of the English version of the game, after Luigi has restored the Dark Moon and returned the ghosts to normal, the Greenie that appears right at the screen within the Ghost Container in E. Gadd's Bunker is missing its mouth. This Greenie will still lack its mouth when it leaves the container after E. Gadd releases the ghosts. This mistake is not present in Japanese copies of the game.
*During the scene where the Slammer has a Greenie in its mouth, the vanes on the gate behind them will vanish.
*In Mission B-3, when Luigi sees the Greenie and Slammer removing the last pinwheel vane, the other vanes can be seen under the Greenie but are not there after the cutscene.
*In mission B-Boss, if the 3D is off, black patches will appear during the first cutscene.
*In Mission B-1, The Flashlight overlays the Poltergust 5000 during the cutscene for a few seconds.
<b>King Boo's Illusion</b>
*In the cutscene where King Boo is firing up his power-enhancing jewel, the jewel will sometimes not flash and boom, but the sounds will remain there.

Shadow Bogmire glitch
Shadow Bogmire glitch
This glitch occurs when Luigi faces a wall just as a Shadow Bogmire is about to sucked in. The Shadow Bogmire becomes stuck on the nozzle of the Poltergust 3000. The outline of the ball that was supposed to be the Shadow Bogmire becomes stuck on the wall Luigi was facing. To end this glitch, the player must have Luigi take damage, hit a wall, or release gcn.

*Super Mario Bros.: One of the songs that Melody plays on her piano is a rearrangement of the underwater stage theme. Also, the Luigi sprite shown on the Game Boy Horror is a sprite from the Super Mario All-Stars version of the game.
