Their name comes from "{{wp|fish fillet|fillet}}", a boneless cut of meat (usually fish). Their English name is a possible reference to the 1986 French period drama ''{{wp|Jean de Florette}}''. Despite being a [[Cheep Cheep|Flopsy Fish]]'s skeleton, a Jean de Fillet is larger than it. Jean de Fillets stick their heads out of the water or lava, then [[jump]] out, knocking [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshi]] away if they touch him. Yoshi can't eat them, but they can be defeated with an [[Yoshi's Egg|egg]] or another object thrown at them.
