In ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', Banktoad and four other Toads form the [[Toad Brigade]]. During the annual [[Star Festival]], [[Bowser]] attacks the [[Mushroom Kingdom]] and kidnaps [[Princess Peach]], inadvertently abducting [[Luigi]] and the Toad Brigade as well. Luckily, Mario comes across the Toad Brigade during the first mission in the [[Honeyhive Galaxy]], after which they follow him back to the [[Comet Observatory]]. Once there, they construct a small spaceship called the [[Starshroom]] with the help of some of the [[Luma (species)|Luma]]s onboard the Comet Observatory. After this, they use the spaceship to travel across the universe in order to help Mario recover the lost [[Power Stars]]. Banktoad can often be found with the Toad Brigade in various galaxies throughout the game. He can usually be seen exploring the area, digging for coins with his pickaxe, or otherwise giving Mario helpful hints regarding his quest.

During his travels, Mario collects a lot of Star Bits. The player can deposit Star Bits with this banker (he appears after the player visits Spin-Dig Galaxy) on a regular basis. Banked Star Bits collect interest, which comes in handy when the player needs to make a withdrawal to feed the [[Hungry Luma|Hungry Lumas]] that Mario encounters on the World Map.
