In the ''[[Mario Strikers (series)|Mario Strikers]]'' (or ''Mario Football'' in the PAL regions) series, Mario takes on a variation of yet another sport, soccer (or football), referred to in ''[[Mario Strikers: Battle League]]'' as "Strike." In the first two games, Mario's team number is 1 and his captain type is Balanced. In ''[[Super Mario Strikers]]'', however, he plays similarly to the rest of the roster. In ''Mario Strikers: Battle League'', unlike with his balanced classification in most spinoffs, he is a technique character who sports more emphasis on his technique and shooting stats, but his other stats are also balanced. Later updates introduce characters classified as all-around, including Shy Guy and Bowser Jr. Mario's [[Super Strike]] in ''Super Mario Strikers'' is the [[Super Strike#Mario - Fire Strike|Fire Strike]], while his [[Hyper Strike]] in ''Mario Strikers: Battle League'' is the Fire Cyclone. His Super Ability in ''Mario Strikers Charged'' is [[Super Mario!]], which increases his size, crushes any players including opponents and teammates, and increases the power of his shooting. Unlike most sports games, in the ''Mario Strikers'' series, he is seen wearing different outfits from his usual shirt and overalls.
