Spin Drills are items that appear in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

The Spin Drill is an item in Super Mario Galaxy 2 that lets the user dig straight down through dirt by shaking the Wii Remote. It can be used to cross through to the opposite side of a planetoid, or to reach cavities inside. Using the Spin Drill doubles as an attack, defeating enemies standing where Mario or Luigi emerges. The Spin Drill ricochets off of hard materials such as metal; sloped hard surfaces underground can change the user's trajectory.

Mario can pick up a Spin Drill and drill directly through planets and dirt. When standing on a spherical planet, the player can use the Drill to go through the surface to the other side by shaking the Wii Remote. The Spin Drill can also uncover hidden inside areas of planets that are otherwise unaccessible. It plays a major role in Spin-Dig Galaxy.
Despite being held (even making the same sound when picked up as a Green Shell), the Spin Drill functions as a power-up; it cannot be dropped unless the user gets hit, touches a Launch Star, or enters a Warp Pipe, and it disappears in the process. Holding a Spin Drill prevents Mario or Luigi from performing certain moves such as the crouch, Backward Somersault, and Long Jump, but they can still Side Somersault and Wall Jump.
