Updown Kinoko first appear in ''[[New Super Mario Bros.]]''. They are platforms that, when stood on, either rise or fall a certain length depending on their color; yellow-and-orange ones fall, whereas orange-and-red ones rise. They only appear in [[World 5-4 (New Super Mario Bros.)|World 5-4]].

Updown Kinoko return in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. 2]]'', exhibiting the exact same behavior as in ''New Super Mario Bros.'', albeit with different color schemes; blue ones fall, whereas pink ones rise. They appear in [[World 5-4 (New Super Mario Bros. 2)|World 5-4]] and the [[Third Course (Gold Mushroom Pack)|third level]] of the [[Gold Mushroom Pack]].
