They can be defeated with either a thrown [[Koopa Troopa|Koopa]] shell, a [[Ground Pound]], or by running into them using the [[shell dash]] ability using the [[Blue Shell]]. If the ? Block on the Blockhopper is Ground Pounded, Mario will receive a [[coin]] or an [[List of items|item]] like an ordinary ? Block.
