World Star (or Star World) is the third special world and the ninth and final world that appears in New Super Mario Bros. 2. It has nine levels and a hidden Toad House. There are seven numbered levels, a Rainbow Course, and a castle that has Dry Bowser as the boss. Blocking the levels in the world is a Star Coin Sign, which requires 90 Star Coins in order to open the path. Also at the beginning of the world is a Toad House, which will appear after all Star Coins have been found. It is blocked by another sign that requires nine Star Coins to remove it, and it gives the player a Super Star for their item slot. Unlike World Mushroom and World Flower, this world is unlocked after defeating Bowser rather than via cannons, much like how World 9 and World S are unlocked upon defeating the final bosses of their respective games. World Star is further differentiated from the first eight worlds in that it has Moon Coins instead of Star Coins. Collecting all of the Moon Coins adds a star to the player's file. Additionally, finding all of the Moon and Star Coins without using White Raccoon Mario results in the Toad Houses permanently staying in their positions without disappearing.

Levels
World Star is the final world that appears in New Super Mario Bros. 2. It has 9 levels and a toad house. Of the levels, there is 7 numbered levels, a castle and a rainbow level. It requires 90 Star Coins to enter it. An additional 9 Star Coins are needed to access the only Toad House in this world.  Dry Bowser is the boss of the castle. It can be unlocked by beating Bowser in World 6. Unlike the first eight worlds, PAGENAME has Star Coins with moons imprinted on them, rather than stars. (called Moon Coins). World Star appears to be similar to World 9 and World S, as they are all bonus worlds unlocked by beating the final boss.

To access this level, the timer must end with the two digits '99' (that is, 'x99', where 'x' can be any number) when the player reaches the flagpole of any World Star level. Once the level is completed, it can be accessed again by satisfying the above condition once more.

|-
Mario is launched onto a moving platform. He encounters three star-shaped Coin formations, then many 10 Gold Coins and a 100 Gold Coin fall toward him. He then passes a large Coin Roulette Block and a Red Ring, each enclosed in Coins forming a star shape. Collecting all 8 parachuting Red Coins replaces the player's inventory with a Gold Flower. The level then ends with three more star-shaped Coin formations.

|The final Castle of the game.
This level combines the elements of grass and sky. Lakitus appear alongside red and green Koopas and Paratroopas. The level also contains a Gold Ring and Dropping platforms.

Moon Coins
*Moon Coin 1: At the start of the level, Mario or Luigi should defeat the first Lakitu and take his cloud. Then Mario or Luigi should ride the cloud up to get the first Moon Coin.
*Moon Coin 2: The second Moon Coin can be seen on the balancing platforms after the checkpoint. Ride the balancing platform down to the second Moon Coin.
*Moon Coin 3: Mario or Luigi should defeat the final Lakitu before the flagpole and acquire his cloud, then ride it upwards to a Warp Pipe, inside is the third and final Moon Coin.

star
Most of this level takes place in an underwater fortress. It begins on a small emerged area of the fort, with a ghostly background and three Brick Blocks. To the far right there is a vertical passage with coins, leading to an underwater place, where Mario must reach a Warp Pipe avoiding Fishbones. This pipe leads the plumber to a horizontal, auto-scrolling corridor featuring more Fishbones, coins, blocks and other items. At the end of the passage, there is another Warp Pipe leading to the Flagpole area.

Moon Coins
*Moon Coin 1: This Moon Coin can be easily collected at the start of the main area of the level. However, it's guarded by two Fishbones.
*Moon Coin 2: Entering a purple pipe in the underwater area, Mario or Luigi can get the second Moon Coin in a small room.
*Moon Coin 3: The third Moon Coin is at the end of the main space, among some Fishbones.

star
Moon Coins
*Moon Coin 1: This Moon Coin is above a single Donut Lift near a Podoboo
*Moon Coin 2: For this Moon Coin the player has to go past the Checkpoint Flag and jump between two blocks to find a hidden block with a Beanstalk. The Moon Coin is located in the secret area which can be reached with it.
*Moon Coin 3: This Moon Coin is located on a Donut Lift between two rocks. It is guarded by diagonal jumping Podoboos.

star
There are 2 parts of the final castle. The first part has many Grinders and also has the Koopalings blasting Mario or Luigi like they did in Bowser's Castle. There are also ropes and fences Mario or Luigi can climb on. The second is the same but Mario/Luigi is now on a Snake Block instead of ropes and fences. At the end, Mario or Luigi battle Dry Bowser. This battle is the same as the Bowser's Castle level. On the first phase, he will breath out blue Fireballs before jumping, allowing Mario or Luigi to hit the ! Switch. On the second phase, the Koopalings make Dry Bowser large. Mario or Luigi will have to jump on platforms to reach the Giant ! Switch.

This course is never selected in the Coin Rush game mode due to the same way as World 6-Bowser's Castle.

Trivia
During both Mario's and Gold Mario's Eagle animations in Mario Golf: World Tour, in which they gain invincibility and go on an enemy rampage, the current scenery of the game is changed to that of World Star. As it could be previously seen in New Super Mario Bros. 2, it features the same vast checkerboard floor that fades into cosmic oblivion, with Super Star graphic patterns vaulting the horizon.
*This is the only special world to not be unlocked via a cannon.
