Smorgs are small, black cloud-like enemies with yellow eyes. They appear in the sixth chapter of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Their name is a portmanteau of "smog," based on their dark, cloudy appearance, and "smorgasbord," with their role in the chapter being summarized as "Smorgs aboard" (the Excess Express). Their vocabulary consists only of the word, "Smorg." Later, they collectively form a large entity of the same name, who serves as the chapter boss.

Individual Smorgs are first seen at Riverside Station, where they lift the drawbridge to stop the Excess Express from progressing. Mario discovers a large group of them hidden within the station, who are trying to conceal a switch controlling the bridge. Mario fends off the Smorgs, causing them to retreat. With that, Mario activates the switch that lowers the bridge, allowing the train to pass. The next day, it is revealed that the Smorgs stowed away on the train and kidnapped the passengers. Mario saves the conductor and the waitress from the Smorgs, which makes them realize that everybody must have been attacked in their sleep. Mario makes his way towards the front of the train on top the train cars to rescue the rest of the passengers. When the Smorgs are cornered on the top of the train, they combine into a large Smorg horde that attacks Mario and his party.

|log=A monster made up of tons of smaller Smorgs. It uses Smorg tentacles to attack.
As a boss, Smorg is made up of massive hordes of individual Smorgs. The base is made up of a cluster of magenta Smorgs while black ones consist the external parts of the boss. At the beginning of the battle, three tentacles, referred to as Smorg Miasmas, surround the main body. After taking a significant amount of damage, the tentacles change shape into a pincer claw, which deals a large amount of damage to Mario and his partner. Once defeated, the individual Smorgs blow away in the wind, releasing the passengers. It is the only chapter boss aside from the Shadow Queen that does not guard a Crystal Star.
|tattle=That's a Smorg. Lots of Smorgs gathered to create this huge monster. It attacks with weird tentacles. Defeating the tentacles will drop the body's defense to 0, making it easier to attack. The tentacles will regenerate, but use that time to deal a ton of damage, OK? It may also take other forms with higher Attack powers, I don't really know. Let's just hurry and beat this thing so we can save those trapped passengers!

This boss does not hold a Crystal Star, but it attacks the Excess Express during the trek to Poshley Heights. This boss is made up of smaller Smorgs. They are first seen at the Riverside Station, where they lift the drawbridge to stop the train from going far (it is unknown if it is working for Shadow Sirens to stop Mario and his teammates from reaching the Garnet Star). Later on, they stow away on the train and kidnap the passengers. Mario and his teammates fight the Smorgs on the rooftop of the train to rescue the passengers. When they are defeated, they will blow away in the wind and release the passengers. It resembles Fuzzies.
Trivia
*Larry's boss fight in Paper Mario: Color Splash almost perfectly parallels the Smorgs'. They both serve as chapter bosses to obtain the second-to-last major star in the game; instead of guarding the star, however, they are both fought on top of a train prior to the train arriving at the star's location.
*In Chapter 6, when the Smorgs appear while talking to the Engineer on the Excess Express, they do not cover the right part of the window in the Japanese version.
