The flavor text in the instruction booklet makes a reference to [[wikipedia:Neil Armstrong|Neil Armstrong]]'s famous quote "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."  Created from dreams of the future, the board is a set of three space stations and is reminiscent of low-budget television shows. The only way to travel about the stations is by teleportation devices, rocket ships, or shortcuts.

The [[? Space|? Space]]s on the central platform are next to three rocket ships. Players could use these if they landed on the spaces. Each rocket took players to either the left or right platforms' landing pads. There is a rocket ship game on the left station that can be played only if a player lands on the corresponding ? Space. While playing this, one controls the levetation of his or her ships to try and collect coins from the [[UFO|UFOs]]. Two more ? Spaces on a robot's arms on the right platform activate a slot machine. If played skillfully, players may earn special [[capsules]] by lining up the slots. A [[Mushroom]] Capsule is the consolation prize. Finally, the ? Spaces next to the taxi ships on the left and right platforms allow players ride from one station to the other for a ten [[coin|coins]] fee. Players can also use the floating platform on the left or right stations as a small shortcut.

In Story Mode, [[Bowser]] and [[Koopa Kid]] attempted to take over Future Dream. When [[Mario]], [[Luigi]], [[Princess Peach]], [[Yoshi]], [[Wario]], [[Princess Daisy]], or [[Waluigi]] came to challenge them, Koopa Kid took over and divided into three: [[Red Koopa Kid]], [[Green Koopa Kid]], and [[Blue Koopa Kid]]. The battle saw victory for the player. Koopa Kid and Bowser escaped to put another plot into motion. This battle took place on a simplified version of Future Dream. Mario and his friends also partied on this board in [[Party Mode]].
