Superstar Showdown is the final mini-game being played at the end of the Story Mode, or Star Battle Arena found in Mario Party 8. Bowser is good to his word and gives the player back the Star Rod. At the last second, Bowser has second thoughts and challenges you to the final match. The player is pitted against him in the deep depths of space. Thankfully, the player has the Star Rod to protect themselves.

This mini-game is unlocked only when the Star Battle Arena is completed, and then it is playable in Mini-game Mode.

Introduction

Bowser and the character are each in space, and the character has the Star Rod in his/her hand. Bowser is riding on his vehicle, and the player is on a Warp Star like Star.

Gameplay

Phase 1

This is a one-player game. Bowser has 10 life points, and the player has 5. While Bowser blasts fireballs, the palyer must hold the Wii Remote up, and swing it aroud to charge up the Star Rod, while dodging Bowser's flames. After it is charged, the player will swing down his/her arm to throw the energy ball. After hitting Bowser 3 times, the game goes to phase 2.

Phase 2

Not much changes in phase 2, except that not only can Bowser spit fireballs, but now has two Bullet Bill launchers, that fire about 6 total each time. This makes it harder for the player to dodge the missles and Bowser's fireballs. After hitting him 3 times again, the battle enters phase 3.

Phase 3

This is the last phase. Now, in addition to the weapons he had before, the vehicle he's riding will have a laser blaster, which will rotate, sending beams out. The only way to dodge these is to get in between two of them. Also, the Bullet Bills will become red, but seem to have no difference in damage. After blasting Bowser 4 times, he will freeze, and get sucked into a black-hole like thing, beating the game.

Controls

  • Move Left/Right - Turn the Wiimote left or right
  • Charge Energy Ball - Hold A/B and swing the Wiimote in a clockwise direction
  • Throw Energy Ball - Swing the Wiimote foward right after charging

Tips

  • If you charge up an Orb but it doesn't get shot then the next time you charge up your attack will do more damage. It will only do more damage if the Orb is still there so charge one big then charge again.
