Dinosaur People[edit]

I couldn't think of where else to put this, but does anyone else think the the dinosaur people from the movie should get an article? Of course, if one is made, theres still the problem of thinking of a name. -- Sir Grodus

I think they deserve an article....No clue bout the name though. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC

Entire Script[edit]

Are we actually putting the entire script of the movie up on the wiki? That sounds kind of nuts. Shouldn't we just put the best quotes or something? Kayube 13:45, 4 January 2008 (EST)

You better believe it! I am nuts, by the way. Actually, having an injured knee gives you tons of free time. We'll see how long this lasts. You can help out if you want, though... Stumpers! 18:04, 4 January 2008 (EST)
It does seem sort of... pointless to have the entire transcript of the movie if we're going to have a plot synopsis. -- Sir Grodus 19:54, 5 January 2008 (EST)
Tell you what, how about we move the transcript to a sub-page of my userspace, and when I complete it, I can move it back here? Stumpers! 20:10, 5 January 2008 (EST)
No. How about you find a transcript online, and link to it at the end of the article. That is way too much unnecessary space, Stumpers. Find the best quotes in there, please, but not the whole thing. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 21:37, 5 January 2008 (EST)
Wow. It's like you guys just negligated four hours of my life. Do you know anywhere else I could host this? Stumpers! 22:23, 5 January 2008 (EST)
I think it is fine if you make the script one of your userpages, but don't stick that info into this article.Knife (talk) 14:52, 7 January 2008 (EST)
How about Super Mario Bros. (Movie) Script as a seperate article. Paper Jorge! I give paper cuts so stand back!
Nothing is lost. If you need the text you added, you can view it in the history. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:48, 7 January 2008 (EST)
Is anyone else okay with the script thing? Stumpers! 19:09, 7 January 2008 (EST)

To PJ: No, we shouldn't create a separate article for the script either. If we did that, we'd have to be consistent and make script articles for other movies and that would be overkill.Knife (talk) 22:48, 9 January 2008 (EST)

I guess we are an encyclopedia... so we don't have to recreate what we write about. I don't know why I started that. Oh, and don't forget we'd need to be doing the Super Show! and other TV shows if we did this. Stumpers! 00:18, 10 January 2008 (EST)

Super Mario Bros. (film)[edit]

I know it's Wikipedia policy to use "(film)" in the titles of articles rather than "(movie)" when it is needed. Please don't tell me that we're not Wikipedia again... I know that. BUT, it would be more professional in my opinion to use the "(film)" disambiguation. Does anyone oppose the move? Stumpers! 22:46, 21 February 2008 (EST)

So, why was this moved back to "(movie)", exactly?--vellidragon 14:56, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

That move was never agreed upon, to my knowledge, and no reason was given in the move log. This is not how major pages are supposed to be dealt with, and so I have moved it back to the previously agreed upon "(film)" title. If anyone disagrees and would rather this article be titled "Super Mario Bros. (movie)", please discuss it here before taking any action. - Walkazo 03:10, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Larger Plot Synopsis[edit]

Hey, I'm going to edit a new plot synopsis into the article. Feel free to delete it if you feel it's not good enough. --Cheep-Cheep 14:22, 26 May 2008 (EDT)

Yeah, we need to say how event happened in the movie, not how they happened in chronological order. That information is for the future Alternate Dimension page, which is coming, I think. Anyway, I'll be moving that big chunk I wrote there later. Stumpers! 15:03, 26 May 2008 (EDT)

Perhaps the synopsis should be divided into sub-sections for the individual acts, seeing as it's so large. I've seen it done that way on other Wikis, like this one. - Walkazo 02:33, 18 January 2009 (EST)

I was planning on doing that when I grabbed some pictures to go along with it. I haven't ruled out giving it a separate article, though. Stumpers! 00:22, 19 January 2009 (EST)
I think it would be better to keep the synopsis here: none of the other plots are seperated from the rest of their articles (as far as I know), so doing that here would seem aberrant in comparison to the apparent Wiki policy. Yes it'll result in a long article, but the plot of Super Paper Mario is pretty massive, and the main characters' pages are even larger, so I don't think that's a hot-button issue we'll have to worry about here. As long as it's divided into smaller sections with pictures to break up the text blocks, it won't seem so daunting for people to read and edit (though that would be an issue regardless of whether or not the synopsis gets its own page). Plus, having it all in one place is simpler. - Walkazo 23:00, 19 January 2009 (EST)
I agree. Long articles are really of no concern (check out Wookiepedia's articles - they are massive, but so interesting). -- Son of Suns (talk)
The only reason I suggested it was because I thought you had an issue with the length (your edit summary). :) As long as you're cool with it, I'm cool, too. Stumpers! 00:46, 20 January 2009 (EST)
Nope, the only issue I have is with my computer - it can't edit pages/sections once they get to a certain length (like the plot summary). It's irritating as heck, but I figured expressing my frustration in a not-entirely-serious edit summary was better than whining about it here. "It's freakin' huge!" is just my hyperbolic humour ;D - Walkazo 21:28, 20 January 2009 (EST)
Awesome! Humor is always a good thing! I'll get right on dividing up the plot for your ease of use. Stumpers! 22:02, 20 January 2009 (EST)
Thanks! - Walkazo 22:47, 20 January 2009 (EST)

NC link[edit]

I think we should put a link to the Nostalgia Critic review of this movie. It's funny, gives a synopsis (a rather brief and lacking full plot review) and Wikipedia features NC links. I don't want to put it up before a Sysop or superior gives me the thumbs up. MisterJaffffeyPeteyPiranhaBanana.gif G0 Super Mario Bros. (film)

I have no problem with the link itself, but I find weird you removed the Screw Attack link on the Hotel Mario article, and yet you want the NC to be linked. --Blitzwing 15:28, 11 November 2008 (EST)
Well, I guess I'd be a hypocrite that way, so don't put the link up. MisterJaffffeyPeteyPiranhaBanana.gif G0 Super Mario Bros. (film)

SMB Archive Exclusive Interviews[edit]

For those interested I've been working with the SMB Movie Archive on exclusive interviews with members of the cast and crew. Our first interview was with Mojo Nixon (a real riot, check it out) but we'll be having much more with secondary characters, extras, special effects guys and makeup artists, and even some of the writers. Hopefully we'll learn something that can be of use in bettering this article. Redstar 14:29, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Uploading photos[edit]

I actually got this on DVD a couple days ago, care if I upload photos directly from the DVD? Luigi's battle stanceGarlic Stapler Princess Peach and Perry from Super Princess Peach.

Go for it. I still need to trim the plot synopsis, but this article could really do with some images. (There's also some scattered throughout the SMB Archive website Character Profiles if you'd like to just grab those) Redstar 00:51, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Beta content?[edit]

So I just got a new issue of GameInformer and it was telling literally all the backstory and even some beta content cut from the movie. Would it be worth adding to the article? Luigi's battle stanceGarlic Stapler Princess Peach and Perry from Super Princess Peach.

Much of the information in that GI article was actually pulled (without permission) from my website at The Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive. We've since received a formal apology and the promise of credit in the November issue, but if you'd like to use any of the information feel free to source us instead. We have the actual scripts and the mentioned interviews.

Rating?[edit]

What is the rating for the movie? Goombob XD (talk) 19:03, 14 May 2013 (EDT)Goombob

It's rated PG for sci-fi action, mild language and sensuality.

Whaaaa...?[edit]

Mario's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, stated, "[In] the end, it was a very fun project that they put a lot of effort into," but also said, "The one thing that I still have some regrets about is that the movie may have tried to get a little too close to what the Mario Bros. video games were. And in that sense, it became a movie that was about a video game, rather than being an entertaining movie in and of itself."

Hold it! Hold everything! What is going on here?! I knew Miyamoto was getting more than a little eccentric, but this is insane! I find it very hard to believe he said any of this. For one thing, very little of the cast and crew seemed to enjoy working on the film even a little bit (have a look at what Bob Hoskins has to say). For another thing, the film barely even referenced the games. It was nothing like the games at all. Yet he says it feels as if the movie got too close to being a movie about a game! Can someone confirm for me that Shigeru Miyamoto said this?!

Rename page?[edit]

Probably better as a "Super Mario Bros. (1993 film)" as plenty of people now attach the "1993" part to distinguish it from the animated Illumination film. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:30, May 18, 2023 (EDT)
