“Yes, sir! We can meet all of your fruit needs! What'll it be? Eh? Pineapple? Oh... Hm, that's odd... I had some this morning...”
Pianta, Super Mario Sunshine

Pineapples appear in the Super Mario franchise as fruits that are generally objects with interactive purposes.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Circus[edit]

Pineapples in Donkey Kong Circus are among the objects that Donkey Kong has to juggle while balancing on a barrel.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]

Pineapples in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode, "Too Hot to Handle" grow in a patch on Waki-Waki, and are thrown by Mario, Luigi, and Toad as projectiles against King Koopa's Shy Guys in the same manner they used vegetables in Super Mario Bros. 2.

Yoshi[edit]

Pineapples in Yoshi reward 800 points after the player clears levels 16 through 18 of the B-Type game.

Donkey Kong 64[edit]

Pineapples in Donkey Kong 64 are projectiles shot out of Chunky Kong's Pineapple Launcher.

Super Mario Sunshine[edit]

Pineapples in Super Mario Sunshine are one of the fruits that Yoshis can eat. By doing so, the Yoshi will become orange and its Juice meter will be filled, allowing it to turn enemies into orange stationary platforms. A large pineapple in Delfino Plaza is on a local rooftop, blocking the red Warp Pipe leading to Sirena Beach, and must be eaten by a Yoshi to unblock the Warp Pipe before they can progress. Unlike other types, large pineapples do not change the Yoshi's color or fill its juice meter.

Mario Party 4[edit]

Pineapples in Mario Party 4 appear as one of the potential fruits on Bowser's list in the minigame Fruits of Doom.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat[edit]

A giant pineapple appear in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat at the end of every level in the Pineapple Kingdom, and Donkey Kong must bite into the Pineapple to end the level. The game also features a fictional variation, Blood Pines.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]

Pineapples in The Super Mario Bros. Movie can be seen in a fruit cart along with watermelons and bananas while Toad is escorting Mario through the Mushroom Kingdom.
