World 8-7 is the secret level in World 8 in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. This level features the Spine Coasters' first and only appearance, and is populated by several Lava Geysers. There are no enemies in the level. Unlike World 8-2 and World 8-3, this level uses an edited version of the default underground background.

This level was originally intended to be an autoscrolling level, though this was eventually changed as the screen moved too fast for the Spine Coaster to keep up.[1]

Layout

Mario starts the level in a lava-filled cavern where he must jump on a Spine Coaster, which later leads to another Spine Coaster. The Spine coaster leads Mario to a Warp Pipe, which leads to an above-ground area with the midway point and to another Spine Coaster. After three more Spine Coasters, the pole awaits at the end. The Spine Coasters often make risky maneuvers, passing through Lava Geysers and the lava itself.

Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1: After boarding the second Spine Coaster, the first Star Coin is floating just above the lava. Mario and co. must obtain it by jumping at just the right time.
  • Star Coin 2: After the midway point, the second Star Coin is floating next to two lava geysers, and must be obtained by jumping over them.
  • Star Coin 3: The third Star Coin is floating in between the two tracks of the two Spine Coasters that are ridden simultaneously. Mario and co. must ride the lower Spine Coaster to it, then immediately jump up to the higher one, obtaining the Star Coin and avoiding the Lava Geyser.

Trivia

  • If the player falls under the cliff with the midway point, they can see that the Warp Pipe connecting to the underground area is not tiled correctly, with an opening connected to a junction box.
