World 5-2 is the second level in the Sky World in the game Super Mario Bros. 3. It is playable upon the completion of World 5-1. This level's completion unlocks World 5-3 and the world's first fortress.

Layout

The level spawns Mario underground next to a gray Warp Pipe. The pipe drops Mario in a free-falling area. If he stays still, he will land on a Note Block shortly into his descent. Here, the player is opened up to two possible paths that lead to the level's goal.

First Pathway

The level's secret area.

The first possible method of completing this level requires Mario to hop off the Note Block onto one below. This Note Block produces a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf when jumped on, but the power-up will fall into the down along the bottomless pit, so it is unobtainable for this path. Mario then must work his way up a series of floating Brick Blocks that lead to a Warp Pipe. Two green Koopa Troopas fall onto the platform of Brick Blocks below the pipe. When Mario enters the pipe, he is taken up to a new area. Here, Mario encounters three Goombas making their way up an incline to encounter him. Mario, shortly after, comes across another slope with two more Goombas walking up. This slope leads down to a Warp Pipe. If Mario takes this Warp Pipe, he is dropped into a secret area with a Mega ? Block encompassed by a large square of Brick Blocks. One Brick Block sticks out on the left and produces a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower if hit. Mario can break the Brick Blocks below the Mega ? Block in order to hit it. The Mega ? Block produces a total of three 1-Up Mushrooms. The exit for this room is a Warp Pipe in the bottom right. This Pipe leads Mario back up to the area where he took the pipe to enter the secret room, except a few units to the right. Mario runs into a ? Block on the ground with three more in the air above. A Koopa Paratroopa hops below these three ? Blocks. To the right is a Warp Pipe that leads Mario to the goal.

Second Pathway

If the player chooses to continue to fall through the pit, Mario will encounter some coins and fall into a body of water with three Warp Pipes. The middle one is the only usable one. This pipe transports Mario down a small waterfall to an underground body of water, with a Cheep-Cheep swimming in it. To the right, an Ice Block and a Buster Beetle are found. The Buster Beetle will pick up the Ice Block and throw it in Mario's direction. If Mario progresses, he will come across another Ice Block next to two Warp Pipes coming out of the ceiling. Both of these pipes contain a Piranha Plant. Past these Piranha Plants is a slope leading to another Ice Block and Buster Beetle. Above them is another Warp Pipe, this once containing a Venus Fire Trap. There is a Piranha Plant in a Warp Pipe to the right of the Venus Fire Trap. In between these pipes is another Ice Block. Mario then comes across a Warp Pipe coming from the ground. A Venus Fire Trap resides in this one. To the right are three ? Blocks and a slope. This slope leads up to Ice Blocks and a Buster Beetle nearby, that will throw both blocks unless defeated by Mario. The slope levels out and leads to an incline leading down to a Buster Beetle surrounded by four Ice Blocks on the ground. Another Buster Beetle situated on a series of Brick and Wood Blocks is above this one. There are three Ice Blocks on top of the stretch of Brick and Wood Blocks. Once Mario gets past these Buster Beetles, he encounters two more Piranha Plants poking out of a Warp Pipes from the ceiling. A Buster Beetle next to two Ice Blocks is in between the pipes. To the right of this is a Warp Pipe that takes Mario up to the level's goal.
