It's a game engine that you can install onto your computer (it's free). Then, you can buy/download games to play on your computer. They have a lot to choose from -- Left 4 Dead, Grand Theft Auto, Team Fortress 2, Sonic the Hedgehog, Audiosurf, and hundreds more. Plus, they always have at least one sale going on. I think they have about 10 games that you can download for free, too. Members can talk to each other through their profile pages, or in Steam chat, and can also gift each other games. It's a really cool service. 'Crathood has been really nice. Scaring people with my powers is one of my favorite activities now. :P I'm horribly inactive around the wiki, though. I really need to edit more before people start saying "why is that guy 'Crat?" By the way, how's Crash been lately? I've made my point already and edited the article to be as correct as possible. The manual, the only source for this information, says "Rocky Wrench is a turtle that looks like a mole." It does not say "Rocky Wrench is a Koopa that looks like a mole." Being a turtle does not instantly mean it's a Koopa (see: Shellcreepers. Turtles, but not Koopas.) Since there is only one source for all of this information, I edited the article to reflect the source. As it stands it is misleading and damages the integrity of the site due to how off it is.
