MusicEdit

Hey, welcome! Thanks for trying to help with uploading a song for New Super Mario Bros. U, but there's a few things you should keep in mind.

  • Audio files should be in an .oga format.
  • Audio should be 30 seconds or less as music samples, the entire song should not be uploaded unless it fits in that length.
  • Please categorize and fill out the aboutfile template correctly, as shown here:

Hello, Wynn Liaw. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the {{aboutfile}} template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded coding is shown below.

{{aboutfile
|1=Subject of the image
|2=Where you found the image
|3=Artist
|4=Describe edits, if any
|5=Other versions (use file link)
}}

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line of the variable(s) you don't use. If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using {{aboutfile}} incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, Wynn Liaw. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the {{aboutfile}} template, replacing the {{uncategorized}} template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

[[Category:Super Mario World images]]
or
[[Category:Super Mario World media files]]

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Just follow these guidelines and you'll be good to go!    22:37, October 12, 2019 (EDT)

Media file namesEdit

Please try to avoid using the file name for the "pipe1=" (the display name) and "description1=" (the description). These should be a name and description for the song, respectively.   Mario JC 23:02, October 26, 2019 (EDT)

On a different note, please do not use parentheses { () } in file names, as they are against the naming conventions in the Image Use Policy. "Avoid using punctuation (brackets, colons, dashes, etc.), superfluous words, conversational names and any other padding that may make names longer and more complicated than they need to be." Trig - 07:57, October 31, 2019 (EDT)

Moving filesEdit

In the future, after moving a file, be sure to change all of the pages that still use the old name (listed under "File usage") to the new name, then mark the old name for deletion with {{delete}}.

Also, regarding your userpage, please avoid using mainspace templates like {{character infobox}} on userspace (see MarioWiki:Userspace). You are free to copy the code from the template page and customize it however you like, though.   Mario JC 08:38, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

If you need any other help, I have a guide here. Trig - 08:51, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

Please follow what I've explained above. We don't keep file redirects, so the old file name must be marked for deletion. If you're not sure about anything, don't hesitate to ask.   Mario JC 05:04, November 1, 2019 (EDT)

Please stop not marking file redirects for deletion on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing.
If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it.

You need to tag the old names with {{delete}} to let admins know they should be deleted in case they get missed (or at least let an admin know directly, if you moved too many at once for example). To save from moving files, try to be more careful with the file names.   Mario JC 02:16, November 7, 2019 (EST)

Whoops, I moved the file back because you marked the image for deletion before any links were fixed, my bad. Should be the other way around, just so you know. Regardless, "NSMBU Roy Koopa Artwork.png" is not any different of a name than "NSMBU Roy Artwork.png", so I don't think the move was necessary.    10:50, April 23, 2020 (EDT)

There are no actual links to "NSMBU Roy Koopa Artwork.png", it's the cache being weird with the file move. Checking the page source shows that file name isn't used.    10:56, April 23, 2020 (EDT)
Weird. I don't know why it happened like that.   Wynn Liaw

I deleted the redirects anyway, but "MGG Checkers Gameplay.png" -> "MGG Checkers gameplay.png" doesn't read like a necessary move to me. It was fine as it was, unless there's something about it I don't notice.    00:25, January 25, 2021 (EST)

File extensionsEdit

Just to let you know, files should be uploaded in a lowercase extension (png, not PNG). Anything important regarding file usage you can find on MarioWiki:Image use policy.   Mario JC 05:07, November 15, 2019 (EST)

When uploading files, you can change ogg to oga directly on the upload page. You do not need to move the page post-uploading. Trig - 08:04, February 27, 2020 (EST)
I know.   Wynn Liaw 08:19, February 27, 2020

Emulator ScreenshotsEdit

You may want to retake screenshots of your recent uploads by uploading them in their native resolution. They will look better that way. You can see a guide I made several years ago here. For example, your Super Mario World and Super Mario Land screeenshots could use such an improvement. It's not just limited to those uploads though. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 12:22, November 19, 2019 (EST)

Second reminderEdit

This reminder has been overturned by the MarioWiki staff. The original reminder can still be viewed.
Please stop not making file extensions lowercase on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing.
If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it.

As Mario jc reminded you above, please be extremely careful about the casing of the extension you add to filenames. They need to be all lowercase as per policy, and yet you have still forgone this multiple times. Please try to be more careful about this, otherwise you might start seeing warnings.   (T|C) 05:03, November 21, 2019 (EST)

Yes, and he moved them correctly and marked the redirect for deletion afterwards. This was very likely an accident.   Mario JC 05:08, November 21, 2019 (EST)

Banzai Bill spriteEdit

The sprite you uploaded was aken from the TSR icon, but he borders of the icon are actually smaller than the sprite itself; basically, take it from the sheet, no the icon. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:56, November 22, 2019 (EST)

FNCEdit

The file, formerly titled File:Super Mario Land Mario.PNG is now File:SML Mario Standing Sprite.png. It is used on your main page. Have a good one. Trig - 13:14, December 8, 2019 (EST)

When moving files...Edit

Hey, thanks for moving a lot of the files that you are to be appropriate in form. I do request, however that you double check 'What Links Here' after putting a file up for deletion and if it appears on either The RAP test, User talk:RAP/test/3 or one of my three sandboxes, to either replace the name on the RAP test or to remove it from my sandbox. Thank you! You may want to check out the RAP test anyway, as it's basically the image quality tag listed by game instead of by alphabet. Trig Jegman - 09:10, January 19, 2020 (EST)

Hey, thanks for the recent file moves. I'm not sure what your system currently is, but if you want to go down through the lists on my sandbox itself you are more than welcome to. Thanks! Trig - 21:33, March 7, 2020 (EST)

SignatureEdit

Dear Wynn Liaw,

Your current signature is in violation of one or more of the rules listed on MarioWiki:Signatures (too many images). Please change your signature and keep the regulations and requirements in mind when creating future designs. If you have not made the appropriate changes within one week of receiving this notice, your signature will be changed for you.

Sorry, you're only allowed up to two images in your signature.   Mario JC 21:44, April 9, 2020 (EDT)

Oops. Is this better now?   Wynn Liaw
Yep, thanks.   Mario JC 09:16, April 11, 2020 (EDT)

BJADONEdit

I reverted your edits to MarioWiki:BJAODN/Games because not only were your quips the kind of "commenting for the sake of commenting" the main page warns about (ie: just explaining the joke or "Oh wow look at this obvious mistake!"), you messed up the italics on one of your last pass and this caused most of the page to display italicized which is not pleasant.

Also if you're going to make a lot of changes to a single article, please do everything in one go as editing header-by-header as you did floods the recent changes. --Glowsquid (talk) 09:45, June 15, 2020 (EDT)

RE: File:M&LSS Mario Bros.png replaced by File:SMA Mario Bros.pngEdit

Done, thanks for finding that.   Mario JC 06:14, October 25, 2020 (EDT)

MediaEdit

Thanks for helping trimming the media files. If possible, can you add a fade-out at the end for future reuploads?   Mario JC 07:22, November 7, 2020 (EST)

I use Clideo. May I use their fade out option? I tested on Donkey Kong title theme and it works great.   Wynn Liaw 07:25, November 7, 2020 (EST)
Sure, why not?
That's a pretty nifty website too.   Mario JC 07:36, November 7, 2020 (EST)

Coins, Coins, Coins!Edit

Thanks for letting me know. Happy Holidays. I have been attempting an all-coin expedition in SM64 of SM3DAS.   Green Star   16:06, December 22, 2020 (EST)

Congrats!Edit

Hey, congrats on becoming a patroller! I know it's a bit late but congratulations anyways!   (T|C) 20:44, February 18, 2021 (EST)

Agreed with Archivist Toadette here. You can now block users from editing. Well done for working hard! -  BigBowserBoss FIRE! 07:30: 22 February 2021 (EST)

Second Congrats! Also...Edit

Congrats on becoming a patroller! Also, I hear you're able to block users? The anonymous user id 68.82.137.245 just trolled the Yellow Toad page. Just a heads-up. Congrats again!   Green Star   14:12, February 19, 2021 (EST)

RE: Pyra and MythraEdit

Yes, they were released on March 4.   Mario JC 21:28, March 6, 2021 (EST)

Re: Is the title theme from Donkey Kong eligible for article creation?, Some themes have more renditions.Edit

Thank you for the information, and sorry for the delay in adding it and replying.

As far as I can tell, that article would be good to create. I'd call it "Opening (Donkey Kong)", because it's only sometimes associated with Cranky Kong, but there might be a better name I'm unaware of. AgentMuffin (talk) 01:49, March 14, 2021 (EST)

Re: Do you know?Edit

I know it's there, but I mean a complete revamp with more media and better organization. I have an idea of how I want to sort it: different sections for overworld music, battle music, event music, Thing tracks, and jingles. Scrooge200 (talk)   13:37, April 14, 2021 (EDT)

File:SSBU Yoshi Panoramic Art.pngEdit

Hey, just to let you know I've marked this image as your personal image since we're no longer using it for mainspace and it's being used on your userpage. If you don't want it, you can mark it for deletion.   Mario JC 06:26, May 30, 2021 (EDT)

DKC mediaEdit

Hey, I noticed you claimed construction on List of Donkey Kong Country media. You haven't edited it since 2021, so I'm wondering if you still want to work on it? I did the media list for DKC2 and I could probably do DKC1 as well, since I like the game and I can easily get the audio for it off KHinsider. (I usually do straight gamerips for optimal quality, but I'm not sure how I would rip the GBC and GBA OST.) Scrooge200 (talk)   16:51, April 9, 2024 (EDT)

Go ahead and work on List of Donkey Kong Country media. I probably won't work on it until July, due to my exams in May and June, and other interests.   Wynn Liaw 05:57, April 10, 2024 (EDT)
