Yeah don't edit these unless there's like a really good reason to, thanks.

Italics

When naming titles for games, movies etc. please remember to write the full title and italicise them with two apostrophes before and after the title (e.g. Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, not Toadstool Tour). Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:42, 17 May 2018 (EDT)

vibe

Vibe is lowercase, as per in game and the manual. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:08, 22 May 2018 (EDT)

Just to clarify, the game and manual refers to the word "vibe" generically in lowercase practically everywhere unless it's part of a name like Vibe Island. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:08, 22 May 2018 (EDT)

Image categories

Hello, Trig Jegman. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello! When uploading images, please always include a game-related image category, such as Category:Wario World Images. Thanks! --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 22:45, 5 June 2018 (EDT)

Also that's not orange, that's orangish yellow. More of an ochre. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:46, 5 June 2018 (EDT)

To be clear, you have to replace the uncategorized with , as the brackets are different. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:11, 5 June 2018 (EDT)

Moving pages

You can change the page's title by clicking the "move" tab at the top of the page. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 08:44, 11 June 2018 (EDT)

A few things

 • When uploading images, they should be categorized under a game's image category, not its base category. For example, images from Wario World go under Category:Wario World Images, not Category:Wario World.
 • You have a bad habit of writing inconsistently. For instance, on List of Gem-Bodied Creature locations, you wrote "Gem-Bodied Creature", "gem-bodied creature", and "gem bodied creature". There is only one correct way to write it; there is no reason why you should keep changing how you write it throughout an article.
 • You used the italic title template to change the title of that same article. While an article titled "List of Gem-Bodied Creatures in Wario World" would need such a template, you should use the move button so it actually has that title.
 • I question the necessity of that article in general, given that there are only 9 Gem-Bodied Creatures in the game, and I really don't think we need a whole article to list their locations as opposed to just having that on the Gem-Bodied Creature article.

File deletion

Hello. When marking files for deletion, instead of simply saying "other files exist", it's a good idea to specify the replacement files in question in the delete notice, so we know there's reason for deleting them.

Also, please remember to italicise titles and name them correctly (with the correct punctuation) as I mentioned above. It's an important guideline, and repeatedly forgetting to follow this may lead to a reminder. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 06:35, 6 July 2018 (EDT)

In above to that, thanks for trying to help clear out the unused images category. However, do try to find a place they'll fit in first. There were a couple of instances where an image you marked for deletion I was able to easily find a place for. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:41, 16 August 2018 (EDT)

Please remember JC's comment above. Placing a link to the replacement/original helps save time so we don't have to track down why it's marked for deletion. Also, be sure you corrected every link to the new file, noticed you've missed some sometimes. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:56, April 18, 2019 (EDT)

Rename suggestion

I'm not sure what your goal is tagging images to be moved to the lowercase extension, MarioWiki:Image use policy says they should anyway. So just the quality template suggesting a png upload will do. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:59, 10 January 2019 (EST)

As seen here you are tagging images to be moved to the lowercase extension, which is unnecessary as the policy supports it and thus a discussion is not needed and as you are autoconfirmed you can move images yourself, by clicking the Move tab on the top of the screen on the image's page. Thanks for your understanding. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 08:29, 12 January 2019 (EST)

Before marking the old name for deletion, please check to see it's clear of every page linking to it, as adding the deletion template breaks the redirect and leaves a broken link on the pages. Adding the deletion notice below the "#REDIRECT" text fixes this, however, but the old links should be taken care of first anyway. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:25, 14 January 2019 (EST)

Also, don't do this. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:28, 14 January 2019 (EST)

oh damn I keep forgetting about my god->nick cage chrome extension. My apologies.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Trig Jegman (talk).

That's okay, sorry for thinking that was your doing, had no idea such an extension was a thing. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:54, 14 January 2019 (EST)
surely now it shall be fixed... Trig - 19:53, April 19, 2019 (EDT)

Why would that be a .gif

In 2007, the wiki didn't really have as many rules, of course. Also, it may have been a .gif in the source. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:46, 16 January 2019 (EST)

Wario Land 2

There is no reason to change WL2 in files to Wario Land 2, as it's not a shared abbreviation. It just takes up more space. Besides, the name is parsed Wario Land II. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:15, 17 January 2019 (EST)

there was, actually. All of the treasure files were identically named for the levels, with the exception of the file extention. -Trig

Then you should have changed the name for the treasure ones by adding "treasure" to the title, not unabridging the abbreviation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:56, 17 January 2019 (EST)

JPGs

Just because an image is a JPG, that doesn't automatically qualify it as needing to be reuploaded as a PNG. This image, this image, and this image as examples are just fine as they are. If a PNG version of them comes up, then great! But if there's nothing wrong with the quality, there's no reason to tag them. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:01, 17 January 2019 (EST)

Please stop marking jpgs with image-quality unless they are actually low-quality as Alex95 has already told you. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:52, April 17, 2019 (EDT)
I like PNG over JPEG or GIF, but in some cases, JPEG is fine for things like photographs and scans. There is nothing wrong with JPEG, with the exception to game screenshots, sprites, textures, 3D renders, and maps. Then prefer PNG over JPEG. I'm no moderator. I just have a lot of experience in this (see the comments as well). See here. The only exception I can really make is Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch screenshots. Nintendo just creates JPEGs in those cases when you play a game and navigate to the browser. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 11:58, April 18, 2019 (EDT)

Delete tags

Dont put a delete tag below a redirect, else it doesnt work. nstead, put it above the redirect Results May Vary (talk) 19:46, 17 January 2019 (EST)

SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 20:25, 14 January 2019

hmmmmmmmmmmm Trig

Fix links first, then tag for deletion over the redirect. Results May Vary (talk) 19:49, 17 January 2019 (EST)
Placing delete below the redirect ensures it doesn't break in case other pages still link to it, but yes, as Results May Vary said, you should fix the links before tagging them for deletion anyway. I even said that in the statement you bolded. I'm not "yelling" at you, I'm just telling you the correct method of doing things. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:44, 17 January 2019 (EST)

Impersonation

As seen here you altered another user's comment and impersonated Mario JC. Unless you are fixing code, please do not alter other user's comments and never impersonate another user or you will face consequences. Thanks for your understanding. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 19:55, 17 January 2019 (EST)

He was quoting me, not impersonating me. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:47, 17 January 2019 (EST)

Moving Files

Just a tip. Be sure to check what links here (left panel under tools) for each file redirect you leave behind (example and the example moved image). The main file usage header doesn't list everything. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 12:36, April 18, 2019 (EDT)

I think they're moving all the Super Mario World images first, and then doing a mass fix on the main and gallery pages. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:38, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
Alex is correct. I do ALL of the mainpage SMW and gallery changes at the same time. Trig Jegman - 12:40, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
I know this process is tedious, but it just makes me think to use Pywikibot. I don't see any script that moves a page without leaving a redirect AND modifies all affected pages. I think a very specific script needs to be created. PorpleBot (talk) is a special bot account that will be hidden in Special:RecentChanges. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 12:43, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
Image redirects shouldn't stay, btw. I can fix 'Shroom and user sigs that are transcluded on multiple pages. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:52, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
I'll let you manage those since you have the power. Will indicate here on out. Trig - 12:54, April 18, 2019 (EDT)

I would only tag an image redirect right after you replaced all instances of it on a page, not before. This breaks image links on a page when you add a delete tag Results May Vary (talk) 17:47, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
If I go to the pages and change them from PNG to png and then delete the redirect (as I do), there should not be an issue. If I delete the redirect first and then the pages, then there does become an issue. It does sometimes take a second for a page to save changes, which is why it may appear afterwards, but I don't think it would be a blank image for more than 5 seconds tops. As for pages with things like the shroom or images people use on their page, I leave the redirect open until someone with the ability can fix it can do so. If it really does become such a major issue I'll look into making sure all pages are saved and then deleting but it should not be terribly difficult. Trig - 19:44, April 19, 2019 (EDT)
Moved images still on userpages should be marked for deletion anyway. Images get moved and replaced, it happens. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:33, April 19, 2019 (EDT)

Re: File Redirect

Alright, thanks for the tip! Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 21:13, April 21, 2019 (EDT)

It doesn't really matter either way, though putting the delete tag over the redirect (or replacing it outright) can make it easier for admins to get to the marked redirect :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:24, April 21, 2019 (EDT)

Hello!

Nice job moving files from lowercase to uppercase! Although, I'm not too sure if editing archives is allowed-maybe in your case, it might be since you have a good reason for it, but I don't know. Mari0fan100 (talk) 10:44, April 26, 2019 (EDT)

It's the other way around from upper to lower. They seem pretty fine with it since it's only capitals not changing things people say or anything. I have admittedly taken a few of the obscenely large images and shrunk them down a little to make the page not crash or make the lines there be legible when it's the file in question. If I get any complaints I'll stop doing it, but I do think people would rather have unbroken images then broken. (Also like half of these people are blocked anyway). Trig - 10:46, April 26, 2019 (EDT)

Turn of events

How would one exactly go about creating an archive page for talk page? (This seems like something an FAQ would answer but no). Trig - 23:17, May 13, 2019 (EDT)

Just move it like you'd move a page. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:25, May 16, 2019 (EDT)

Boomerang pictures

Pictures with "boomerang" in the file name tend to get hidden by ad-blocking software for whatever reason. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:24, May 16, 2019 (EDT)
