Image Category Reminder

Hello, Archivist Toadette. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the {{aboutfile}} template, replacing the {{uncategorized}} template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

[[Category:Super Mario World images]]
or
[[Category:Super Mario World media files]]

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

A few of your uploads have been neglecting categorization. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:56, 20 December 2016 (EST)

Yes, {{uncategorized}} was Porplemontage (talk)'s idea and I created it. The reminder I gave you should give you a good place to start in the future instead of solely relying on the uncategorized template. The idea is for you to get more familiar with our website's inner workings. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:31, 21 December 2016 (EST)

Wii U Screenshot Uploads

Check this out because you can submit 1280x720 screenshots of live Wii U gameplay this way! No need to rely on YouTube videos (very common). Only downside is that it is JPEG. Don't convert to PNG. That doesn't do anything but bloat the file size. Quality doesn't increase. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:59, 20 December 2016 (EST)

@Wildgoosespeeder It increases the quality of MediaWiki-generated thumbnails. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 01:55, 21 December 2016 (EST)
Different sampling algorithms for reduction. The source image is likely flawed, similar to JPEG to PNG conversions (MPEG or other lossy formats that generated the frame being screenshot to PNG in this case). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:29, 21 December 2016 (EST)

Signature

I see that your signature (~~~~) is inserting raw code instead of transcluding it ({{User:Archivist Toadette/sig}} produces Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C)). The page exists, but something isn't set up right. Please verify here to make sure your Special:Preferences are set up correctly. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:17, 21 December 2016 (EST)

I think so. Just keep using ~~~~ and verify the code after you commit your edit. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:47, 21 December 2016 (EST)

FYI, your sig currently breaches the sigbox. Maybe shrink Toadette down a bit or replace it.

It wasn't a major problem, so it didn't seem like you needed a {{sigfix}} warning. You had just fixed an earlier issue, anyway, so I wasn't going to give you another one. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:46, 21 December 2016 (EST)

Thanks For Working On Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Pages

Thanks for getting around to creating missing articles for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. There is one in particular I wanted to see created and that is Poison Canal Cannon Run. You don't even need to upload an image for it. It already exists. When you can, make this article and use the image I am supplying. That should save you some time uploading. To save even more time with uploads, use the episode pages (Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, etc.). No need to create duplicate uploads. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:46, 23 December 2016 (EST)

Really? That's my favorite level as well! However, I'll put it off until I reach Toadette's Tribulations. You can feel free to create some of them as well. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 12:23, 24 December 2016 (EST)
I don't have the game so my contributions would be limited. I already tried to create the article the image I am referencing in this conversation and L151 (talk) shot it down. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:37, 24 December 2016 (EST)
That's all right, you can try to watch 100% playthroughs of the game. It's what I do even though I have the game. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 08:54, 25 December 2016 (EST)
Even so, I think that my contributions would be limited. If I can experience the game instead of watching someone else play, I can contribute more because of first hand experience. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:01, 27 December 2016 (EST)

I have the game, so if you ever want me to help you with it and shorten your work, I could :) ...After I work on Wario World's Shivering Mountains page and the next Sport Report, that is. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:55, 26 December 2016 (EST)

Creating talk pages of blocked users

If a user is blocked, there's no reason to create a new talk page if one doesn't exist purely to state that the user is blocked. All that does is waste space on the server. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:17, 28 December 2016 (EST)

Articles

Hey, it's great that you are creating articles for the missing levels, but they shouldn't be left in a bare-bones fashion. It would be much better to create the article in whole edit, especially as you add the information in short bursts which floods the recent changes, which is against our rules. I hope this doesn't discourage you from creating the articles. Yoshi876 (talk)

Edits

Hey! Great work on the Captain Toad / Woolly World / Mario Run level articles, but just to reiterate what Yoshi876 said, you should try to keep the number of edits to a page to a minimum, meaning keeping them in one big edit, then making any minor fixes if necessary. Just letting you know as making multiple consecutive edits to one page floods the recent changes page and is a warnable offence. Thanks for understanding and keep contributing! Coin GUI Image

Since you removed the coin GUI image from the Magma Burger page, should it be removed from the Ruddy Road and the Battle Card pages too? --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:13, 5 February 2017 (EST)

I'd say yes, since having an image in that particular scenario seems unprofessional to me. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 18:36, 5 February 2017 (EST)
Actually, no for Battle Card, as for once the icon looks professional there. I'm talking about using the image in-text. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 18:40, 5 February 2017 (EST)
OK! I also recently added it to the Coin gallery. Should it stay there, too? --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:44, 5 February 2017 (EST)
Yes, it can stay there as well. Removing it defeats the purpose. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 18:46, 5 February 2017 (EST)

Re:Featured Articles

Thanks for expressing concern for my project.

Anyway, my sandbox isn't necessarily going to be one big homogenous page; it's just the foundation of what I'm going to do. Basically, I'm planning to split some things into separate pages: MarioWiki:Featured Articles/Archives/Feature nominations amd MarioWiki:Featured Articles/Archives/Unfeature nominations.

I'm going to replace the "Nominated articles/lists" and "FAs proposed for unfeaturing" headers with my Active nominations table.

My Featured/Articles Lists header will just add a link to the way it's currently organized.

I won't put a proposal up until I'm done organizing the archives list. There's still a lot of them left to go, so it won't be for a while. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 20:48, 6 February 2017 (EST)

Anyway, I've already set up the archive in my page (the tables under the dates headers are my planned archive pages). What I'm planning to do is create archive page for feature nominations, copy that table to the archive page, and you can add your idea of adding different colors for different statuses. You should probably copy and paste my list rather than start them from scratch. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 23:40, 8 February 2017 (EST)
I still think it's a better idea to give each year a different header, since we also currently organize featured articles by year. It's just for consistency's sake. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 12:26, 9 February 2017 (EST)
Well, the way we currently do it is to organize by date and split off the years. The archives should also reflect that. We can also add the sortable parameter to the individual tables but keep in mind that the category archives already sort it alphabetically by default. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 13:25, 9 February 2017 (EST)
Oh my goodness, I see a problem with the whole category thing in the unfeature succession archive. It's organized much differently than this category for no reason at all, because someone arbitrarily added |"letter of the name" to the end of the category at the bottom of the archive, rather than just letting the category organize itself. Also, the entire FA page naming needed admin intervention in the first place; I've contacted L151 (talk) to rename a good chunk of those names, because they were inconsistent as hell. I suggest we contact an admin or something to get rid of those added parameters in the category name. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 13:55, 9 February 2017 (EST)
I have an idea. Maybe we could set up our ideas in the talk pages provided, so we can both edit it. How's that? I'm already giving you permission to make changes to my table, and if we're going to work together on this, we should both be able to edit it without having to make separate pages for two ideas that might clash together. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:26, 9 February 2017 (EST)
Nomination number, easy. Replace "First" "Second" in your table with IDs like "N1", "N2", so it's better organized that way, by numerical rather than alphabetical. I also had thoughts on implementing the color scheme, but I wasn't concerned on that yet until I completely finished writing the tables for all archives. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:46, 9 February 2017 (EST)

Re:Pink Gold Peach template dispute

Sorry about that, the templates were a bit confusing because they both stated "This article" rather than "This article/section of an article" also there is no mention on {{just released}} that it should only be used on game articles. I am wondering why you added a section on my talk page and acted like I had undone your edit multiple timed, the edit summary was perfectly fine and I would of understood from that perfectly fine, so I feel like there was no need to add that section to my talk page.

Apparently, File:Kamek's Last-Ditch Flyby 2.jpg‎ and File:Kamek's Last-Ditch Flyby.jpg‎ were uploaded almost two years ago without an article to link to them. I have a request. Please create Kamek's Last-Ditch Flyby as your next article to create, just to use them up so they don't have to show up in Special:UnusedFiles anymore. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:00, 17 April 2017 (EDT)

Featured Articles

Hey, how has it been going? Have you made any significant progress constructing our planned Featured Article archive/nominations? Me, I haven't touched it in a while, thanks to other projects and projects outside of the wiki. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 20:44, 20 April 2017 (EDT)

Yeah...I've been busy, too...But I definitely intend on finishing it! Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 20:54, 20 April 2017 (EDT)
Just curious, but how much is done so far? I haven't been keeping track of it since that time ago. I'd maybe continue on it sometime soon as well. In the meantime, maybe we could move that table to the talk page of that archive, so we can both edit it. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 21:41, 20 April 2017 (EDT)
I'm almost done with the successfully unfeatured articles in 2013 and hope to finish the unfeaturing succession archives in 2014 by the end of the weekend. Once I'm done, I'll go back and add in all of the failure archives. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 21:43, 20 April 2017 (EDT)
Just letting you know I have updated my page, just so you won't put yourself with unnecessary work. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 01:36, 27 April 2017 (EDT)
I have tracked down...all 154 successful nominations in my sandbox page, that I know of (occasionally nominations get their categories left out, sometimes you need to double check). Now all that's left are the failure archives and the unfeature succession archives. Feel free to copy and paste my progress on starting out on the feature failures on your project page. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:44, 27 April 2017 (EDT)

I think if the article was originally named one way, we leave it like that (eg Mario (franchise) used to be called Mario (series), and it's named that way in the archive, so we should reflect that as well) BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 18:18, 1 May 2017 (EDT)

Let's deal with that situation later, once we get all of the archives onto the list. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 18:22, 1 May 2017 (EDT)

What the heck?????

Not trying to be rude, but.....when you just took out everything I just made for the "Zoe Nelson" article,......like, what the heck????? I spent 45 minutes making that and finding that information!!! Isn't there someplace it can go? You basically just waisted a whole 45 minutes. It seemed like perfectly fine information to have on the wiki to me.....I have no clue what it is to you, but that took me a while and I'm just disappointed. Sorry if I was a bit harsh. Tommy 8353 (talk) 22:02, 22 April 2017 (EDT)

Sorry to butt in, but Toadette's not online so...
The information you put has nothing to do with the Mario series. It is not important to add information about what movies she was in, etc. When writing about anything, we only include information having to do with Mario. For example, on Link's article, we don't include info about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but we do include ino from the Super Smash Bros. series because that involves Link interacting with Mario characters and elements. Hope this clears that up.
Ultimate Mr. L without the emblem behind him (for my signature) Ultimate Mr. L (Talk-Contribs-Stats) 22:25, 22 April 2017 (EDT)
oh, okay, thanks! Sorry about that. It does make sense to only include information about what non-mario articles have to do with mario. Even though my edit was pretty long, I thought it would be okay to at least mention other things non-mario related, but I guess that wasn't the case. Thank you!
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tommy 8353 (talk).

Afoot in the foothills

According to Henry Tucayo Clay (talk), this kind of redirect should be lowercase. I know that the official capitalization is Afoot in the Foothills, but when typing the redirect in, you have to be exact with the capitalization, while with Afoot in the foothills or Afoot In The Foothills, it works with any capitalization. --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:41, 23 April 2017 (EDT)

I thought rule 4 was covering redirects with the same words as the actual page, just with different capitalization, like with the example shown when it says "Super Mario galaxy" is unnecessary as a redirect to "Super Mario Galaxy". Should I ask Tucayo his opinions about the Afoot in the foothills redirect? --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 19:54, 23 April 2017 (EDT)
Tucayo told me that he would have to talk with the other admins to figure out something consistent to do with redirects, as he pointed out that anyone who tried to link to the correct capitalization would end up with a red link, something that didn't occur to me, so you were right that we will have to keep it as Afoot in the Foothills. About rule number 4, he said that it does refer specifically to redirects such as "Super Mario galaxy". --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Galaxy Missions

I've noticed you've been adding mission tables and such to the Super Mario Galaxy related missions. I have done the same with Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, and am planning to do the same with Super Mario Galaxy 2 as well (though if you want to do that one, you can). This is a project I have been working on for a number of months now, and having you work on it further would ultimately qualify as edit sniping. I appreciate the help, but I am almost done with the project and would like to avoid any issues. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:42, 7 May 2017 (EDT)

Forum talk on user talk pages

I could be wrong, but I think the forum comments rule is only for main talk pages, not user talk pages. I don't think it is allowed to remove those comments from user talk pages, even if they are forum talk. --Super Mario Fan 67 (TCS) 22:21, 22 May 2017 (EDT)

So sorry! For a while I thought the "no forum talk" policy applied to user talk pages as well. Ah, well... Still, it might still be wise to strongly caution against making forum comments anywhere on the wiki. I'll make a proposal soon. ;) Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 23:39, 22 May 2017 (EDT)

Proposition

I see that one of your next projects is creating articles on the missions of Super Mario Galaxy 2. I had already started this, so how about we work together and get it done faster? Since I'm working on world 1, why don't you do every other world (2, 4, & 6) and I'll do the odd ones (1, 3, & 5)? As for the special world, maybe we can alternate galaxies or something. RE:SMG2 Update

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. By "smaller portion", I'm assuming you mean the mission table in the galaxy pages and "bigger portion" meaning the missions themselves? If that's the case, then doing the galaxies would be rather inefficient. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:20, 4 June 2017 (EDT)

Sounds good. When we get there, why don't I take every other galaxy starting from Twisty Trials Galaxy? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:27, 4 June 2017 (EDT)
I'd recommend checking the galaxy infoboxes of the galaxies you worked on to see if there are any links that were missed. Otherwise, thanks for the help! E3 is going to take up my time these next couple of days, but I'll try to finish soon. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:58, 13 June 2017 (EDT)

Welcoming

Hello! Just so you know, I don't believe that you're supposed to create talk pages just to welcome users like you did here, as, according to MarioWiki:Welcoming users, creating user talk pages for the sole purpose of welcoming new users is prohibited, though the policy states that you can welcome them if you are creating a user talk page for another reason. RE: Goombas: (microgame) or (WarioWare: D.I.Y.)?

See Special:WantedPages. Don't go changing the templates so fast (you have to change the files too by the way). It would mess things up. This helps identifying what game the article belongs to. Also, the game title in the article title makes it much easier for people looking up WarioWare: D.I.Y. microgames. I'm working on getting the articles complete. I thought someone else was going to pick up the slack, but thinking someone would duplicate an image, I'm just going to get to it. I uploaded missing files last September. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:59, 24 June 2017 (EDT)

Eventually, the moves should take place, but will it be logical to do so? Only time will tell. I think that rule is there if the topics are the same in-between game releases but are different from the more commonly used definition of the name, not for every instance where the topic is referenced only once in a game series. I would talk to a sysop about this, but not now, as I am working on this little project. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:21, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
Are Skeeter (New Super Mario Bros.) and Gold Ring (New Super Mario Bros. 2) name correctly? Doesn't sound like it. These are the only two examples that come to mind. There's probably many more. The point is the naming policy isn't universally followed. Probably some common sense and critical thinking are factored into the chosen names. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:55, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
I don't think Porplemontage (talk) cares that much about the rules as much as staff positions lower than his. His main concern is making sure the wiki functions and polishing some things up (the recent template renames). He doesn't really care how we conduct ourselves in terms of content and article naming schemes. That seems like something that admins care about more though, not the proprietor.
If you want other article names that use a game title to distinguish, Time Turner has created new pages with the title instead of a generic word, to distinguish. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:07, 24 June 2017 (EDT)

RE: WarioWare: D.I.Y. downloadable microgames

Where I got the microgames could be on the same fine line as how to obtain games to play on emulators. I can't explicitly disclose where I got them. The only thing I can disclose is purchase the game used and hope that the data Super Mario Wiki is seeking is on the cartridge. I can reassure you the microgames are not lost forever, as they were extracted and archived on a similar level as people creating emulators to preserve game history, if your quest returns not much of anything. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:56, 19 July 2017 (EDT)

Quick reminder

Hello Toadette. Good job with your contributions lately. But I was just wanting to inform you that big changes concerning such administrative pages shouldn't really occur without first contacting an administrator. There was nothing wrong with the header idea, but it's preferred that permission is sought before doing so. Thanks!

Bowser Images

Care to explain how you thought the Bowser's Inside Story artwork was recycled from Super Paper Mario? The artworks depict him with his arms folded, but that's pretty much where the similarities stop. "Recycled" generally means "reused", which it isn't in this case.

EDIT: For that matter, the Super Mario World artwork would also be similar. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:44, 27 July 2017 (EDT)

It's a generic pose used by plenty of other people in plenty of other situations.. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:47, 27 July 2017 (EDT)
I don't think so. There are other artworks where Bowser has his arms folded. I don't think the connection is necessary. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:49, 27 July 2017 (EDT)
Again, because it's a generic pose, with connotations of opposition or not caring. It's common for Bowser because it's common for others. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:53, 27 July 2017 (EDT)

Minor Edits

Just as a heads-up, if you're going to make a small change to a large number of articles, it's best to tag them all as minor edits. This is something that's enforced by policy, so it's best that you stick to it. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 20:15, 27 July 2017 (EDT)

Feathers

May I ask why you moved Feather (Mario's Time Machine) to Feather (item)? I know that identifiers should first cover what the subject literally is, as shown here, but Cape Feather already exists. While "Cape Feather" is the common name for the item, "Feather" has been used as a name for an item in at least a couple of contexts, notably the Super Mario Kart manual and the Mario Kart 8 Prima guide. Also, items from Mario's Time Machine really shouldn't take priority over more-established subjects. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:53, 28 July 2017 (EDT)

My question also extends to Drumstick (item); with the three BiS items, it just makes it confusing. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:57, 28 July 2017 (EDT)
To use an example, Super Star is the current name of the subject, with Starman being an old name for it. Despite this, Starman (EarthBound) still carries the identifier because people associate "Starman" with the item more so than the enemy. I'm making the same point here. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 20:16, 28 July 2017 (EDT)

Sorry for barging in, but I should note that it's also important to take precedence into account. For example, more people would be searching "Bow" from Paper Mario here than Link's "Bow" from Smash Bros. (People searching for the latter would likely visit SSB Wiki first.) Similarly, there are likely more people searching "feather" who are looking for the Cape Feather from Mario World than the item from Mario's Time Machine, a relatively obscure game. This is the reason why "Jumpman" still redirects to Mario rather than the badge, and why "Goombas" redirects to Goomba rather than the microgame. Identifiers for all entries that share the same name is recommended if they take equal precedence. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:18, 28 July 2017 (EDT)

Yes, that's my point. Now, Feather is a disambiguation page, but I think that it would be best if Feather redirected to Cape Feather, which could then have {{about}} on it. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 22:21, 28 July 2017 (EDT)

Scarf is the same thing. People are going to search for the Paper Mario item more than the Mario's Time Machine article. Mario's Time Machine is infinitely more obscure than nearly any game on the wiki, so its subjects should not be given the same precedence as subjects from other games. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 11:12, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

Mario jc has already interjected in this conversation, and he said the same thing that I said. Why do you need to bring this us with Steve and not any other admin? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 11:19, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

Before you continue to move more articles, please keep in mind that you gave Steve two examples, one of which followed what I was saying and one of which followed what you were saying, and he said that both of the example were fine as they are. He did not say that you have complete freedom to move all articles that share names. He also says, at the top of his page, not to bother him unless there is a technical issue with the wiki. This is not a technical issue. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 20:59, 3 August 2017 (EDT)

Do you want to have another conversation about subjects from other games taking priority over Mario's Time Machine? I do not appreciate that you moved the pages without so much as a discussion. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:15, 17 August 2017 (EDT)

Actually, let me ask you a genuine question: do you think that Spiny should be moved so that it has an identifier? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:17, 17 August 2017 (EDT)

No. They're completely different items used in completely different circumstances, appear in completely different games and have completely different appearances. Presenting them as if they're one and the same to readers is completely misleading and unnecessary. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:36, 17 August 2017 (EDT)
And frankly, between Paper Mario and Mario's Time Machine, it should be plainly obvious which one would be searched more. It has nothing to do with them only making one appearance and everything to do with the notability and renown of the games. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:39, 17 August 2017 (EDT)
I'm also considering asking an admin to move the pages back. The items in Paper Mario are either required for sidequests or the main story, which is to say nothing about the popularity of the game. Almost nobody has played Mario's Time Machine in the first place, let alone the PC version, and nearly every item is skippable. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:46, 17 August 2017 (EDT)
Sorry for barging into this conversation, but I agree with Time Turner. I feel the Paper Mario items should take precedence, as Mario's Time Machine is more obscure than Paper Mario, and the items in Paper Mario are required for parts of the main story. --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Deleting redirects

Rather than delete the redirects, I think that it'd be best to leave them, as there are several discussions that link to them. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:31, 12 August 2017 (EDT)

I fail to see why the wiki needs to "cleanse" them, and just because it was like that in the past doesn't mean that it should be like that now. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:49, 12 August 2017 (EDT)

Courtesy

Part of our Courtesy policy includes a section about participating in other users' projects without asking them first. While I don't mind that you archived the proposal, I would rather that you do not edit any of the involved pages (including the categories) unless you ask me first. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 20:32, 16 August 2017 (EDT)

Asking someone else to implement my proposal is also rather discourteous especially when you don't ask me first. Considering how you also tagged Quake for deletion despite that going against what I clearly wrote in the proposal, I'm going to ask you to not archive any of my proposals from now on. And please don't send me reminders that my proposals have concluded; the world isn't going to end if they're not immediately archived. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 15:34, 9 October 2017 (EDT)
I am aware of that, and my point still stands. I am perfectly capable of resolving matters related to my proposal. We've already talked in the past about you attempting to enforce my proposals and sending me reminders; what makes you think that it would be okay for you to not ask if I wanted help in dealing with my proposal and then potentially discussing how my proposal will be implemented without me knowing? Simple mistake or not, there's a repetitive pattern here, and at some point, the foot needs to be put down. What you're doing in an attempt to convenience other users only makes things more complicated than they need to be. My statement also comes after how you handled my Quake proposal. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:49, 9 October 2017 (EDT)

RE: Maintenance edit

No, that would make it the talk page of MarioWiki:Proposals/Archive 1. MarioWiki:Proposals Talk Archive 1 contains discussions about proposals in general, while "MarioWiki talk:Proposals/Archive X" are discussion pages relating to their respective archive pages (some of them already exist), and should be reserved as such, even if some aren't being used. Using an existing page's talk page for another page's own talk page would just make it confusing, especially since if we were to go down that road, every existing archive talk page linked above would have to be merged as well. They're fine as they are.

On a different topic: regarding the disambiguation pages with identifiers, there's no need to go out of your way to create them if the entries can easily fit on an {{about}} template on the page with the original name. (You also didn't link to the disambiguation page on Penny, so I don't quite see what your intention in creating it was.) They would be useful if there are too many articles sharing that name like Chomp (disambiguation), but not in this case. Disambiguation pages without identifiers with two or more entries are a different story, because they're found by searching and their entries take equal priority. RE: Collaboration Project

I would love to help, but unfortunately I do not own the game. Nor a Switch for that matter. I think there are a few users that do own the game, though. Eldritchdraaks (talk) immedately comes to mind, but I'm sure there are more I don't remember/know.

For level articles, I usually resort to online videos or guides only when I'm missing information. I prefer to play the game, so I can play and find information at my own pace. In fact, every level article I've made so far has been from my own personal playthroughs. I suppose an external reference could be used, but that's just not the way I can work. It's rather boring for me to experience and I always have "What if" questions for things like this, so I always feel like I'd be missing information. MRKB pictures

I saw that both you and Eldritchdraaks are involved in creating articles related to MRKB, but the game has a lot of content. Therefore, I decided to help ease the effort by uploading screenshots from the game, which you can find in my sandbox page. At the time I'm writing this message, there are only a handful of few chest locations from Sherbet Desert, but I will add more images as I advance through the game. Unfortunately, I have no Ancient Gardens screenshots because the thought to help came about after I completed the level... But let's see what you can make out with what I have! "Broodal" as a "likely" species name

That's a judgement call, which we aren't allowed to do, especially for upcoming subjects. Especially since "Broodal" is a pun on "Bridal." And it's equally likely Shadow Siren is both a group and species name. Not trying to be rude, but I'm saying that what you did isn't safe. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:57, 7 October 2017 (EDT)

And I think that's an extremely unsafe assumption. Assumptions like that are why things like "Lakitufo and Shroob Rex were Shroobified, which means turned Shroob-like" exist, despite there being no evidence of this and decent evidence otherwise. The "Bridal" pun is what makes me adamant it's not a species name. Besides, why should this be a species name and Shadow Siren not be? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:23, 7 October 2017 (EDT)

About the Trouble Center missions

Why are you putting chapter names under the "level" parameter in the infoboxes? That's supposed to be for where the mission takes place. Putting chapter names there makes no sense to a casual reader - is that the chapter it becomes available, or the chapter that must be completed to unlock it? I suggest either putting that information in the article proper, or creating a new parameter for it in the missionbox template (maybe "unlocked after" followed by the chapter in question). I'm still waiting for a response here. Dark BonesSig.png 20:45, 11 October 2017 (EDT)

Ties in proposal

For archiving proposals, brown is a legacy colour and nothing more. In the past, when a proposal's deadline was reached and the votes on all sides were tied, it ended then and there; the proposal was not extended. A proposal failing to reach a consensus and coincidentally ending with the same number of votes for all sides does not require it to be marked with a unique colour. What's so special about a 5-5 consensus that requires it to be individualized from a 4-5 or a 5-4 ending? Ties in and of themselves are not special, but we make note of them for previous proposals because they were used in special ways. This is why (for the main proposals) there are no proposals tagged with brown after 2011: this is not because ties ceased to happen, it's because ties were treated in such a way that it was notable to make note of them. Stop edit warring. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:32, 15 October 2017 (EDT)

New Licensing Template

I've noticed you were trying to clear up Category:Uploader unsure of copyright status. There was a reason for those images being there. Using {{game-screenshot}} is no longer necessary. The appropriate license is {{game-map}}. If your image contains mainly level contents and not the protagonist (Mario, Donkey Kong, etc.) or HUD (score, timer, etc.), use the new tag. It should be added to the drop-down in Special:Upload by Porplemontage (talk). If you aren't the uploader, it is encouraged to fix file pages that you stumble upon that haven't transitioned to the new licensing tag. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:54, 19 October 2017 (EDT)

Bestiary images

Noticed you added the images from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions enemies onto the enemy templates in the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga bestiary. However, one of the changes in the game is that enemy stats have been changed. Because of this, it seems necessary to make a new bestiary and not group the new images with the older enemies. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:57, 19 October 2017 (EDT)

Patrolling pages

Okay, but is it really that important that you need to notify me about it? Manually patrolling edits doesn't really do anything other than getting rid of the yellow on the "New pages" page, so we never felt the pressing need to click the "mark as patrolled" button, just so long as it's a legitimate article. For me, it's just something I do as I come across a new page as I've said before, but on occasions we don't (like when there's a wave of new articles), it's not a big deal.

Not necessarily related to this, but I've noticed you tend to give other users the heads-up of what needs to be done, and it's great that you like to keep on top of things, but please try to be patient when something that isn't urgent doesn't get done immediately. I'm pretty active here on the wiki, and so are a number of other users, so we're most likely going to come across this and take care of it eventually. I'd like to direct you to a new post on made on Steve's talk page regarding the format of the tables.--EldritchdraaksSig1.pngEldritchdraaksSig2.png 16:58, 2 November 2017 (EDT)
Are you going to do the power moon proposal soon?--EldritchdraaksSig1.pngEldritchdraaksSig2.png 18:28, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Rocket Flower

Like I said, that means you upload a separate image. You don't replace a perfectly good one, nor do you ask for an image replacement on the page of one that's perfectly good. To clarify, this is from the Prima guide; there is only one version of this image. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:39, 2 November 2017 (EDT)

It doesn't work that way. You can't just dismiss it as a matter of opinion while completely supplanting your own opinion. It's also not opinion that this is the only possible version of this one image; at best, it'll be substituted by a screenshot. That may be better for some situations, but that does not warrant the removal of this image. Also, I've never once seen the image-quality template used in that way. What relevancy does the lack of an immediate need have in this case, anyways? You're still calling for the image to be replaced. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:51, 2 November 2017 (EDT)
Again, that's fine, but you don't do that by putting an image-quality tag on the image. That template is specifically for questioning the quality of the image, not for suggesting that other images are also uploaded alongside it. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:57, 2 November 2017 (EDT)
You don't call for the creation of a new article by putting a stub tag on another page. Maintenance tags are only for the page in question, and if the page itself is fine, they don't get tags. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:01, 2 November 2017 (EDT)
You're both repeating youself and contradicting yourself. Do you or do you not want the image to be reuploaded? Also, please, tel me how the template named "image-quality" should be used in relation in something that doesn't involve an image's quality. I've already stated that I've never once seen the tag used in a way that doesn't relate to the image's quality. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:04, 2 November 2017 (EDT)
That relates directly to the file itself, and a potential problem with it. It doesn't particularly relate to this situation. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:17, 2 November 2017 (EDT)
Why? If you say that you want to find a solution to this, then I'll reply that this isn't that complicated and doesn't need to be drawn out. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:47, 2 November 2017 (EDT)

"Per discussion. Anyone that has a problem with this image should discuss it here." Or, you know, on the image's talk page so Time Turner doesn't get swamped with discussions :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:59, 2 November 2017 (EDT)

Dizzy Star

What that person was trying to say was that Mario used the cartoon spinning star effect signifying dizziness as a powerup, and I honestly can't see any way to note it happened twice outside of Trivia without breaking up flow via parenthesis. As for Party Line, it makes sense, see the show's other poor attempts at tackling "real world issues," such as in King Scoopa Koopa or the somewhat-more-memetic Rock TV. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:56, 20 November 2017 (EST)

"Unconfirmed" Spikes

how is it unconfirmed? Clubbas are a subspecies of Spikes, and their Japanese names both seem to be a pun on "Gabon," not "Gabon Hei," meaning they were most likely intended to be Spikes, not Clubbas (especially considering neither are soldiers....) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 06:47, 22 November 2017 (EST)

I concur. Explicitly, Clubbas are Spike soldiers that wield spiked clubs. Tubba Blubba and (Macho) Grubba, despite the similar name in English, definitely do not apply to either of those things. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:35, 22 November 2017 (EST)

If they're Clubbas, they're Spikes by default, and their bodies make it clear they're Spikes. However, it isn't confirmed that they're Clubbas. Ergo, it's better to list them as Spikes. the English names are similar to Clubbas, while the Japanese names are similar to Spikes. And since Clubbas are beady-eyed Spikes carrying Morning Stars, they are not Clubbas, as the only word from that describing either of them is "Spike." Maybe this should be taken to the talk page. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:35, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Oh, so Tolstar's a confirmed Spike but they aren't? You're not making sense, if they aren't Spikes, what are they? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:24, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Again, I direct you to both their general appearance AND the fact that the Japanese names are derivative of Gabon! Even "Gansu" is fairly obviously based off of "Gabon" when coupled with the general appearance. They. Are. Spikes. End. Of. Story. There is nothing you can say that will make them not Spikes. They are clearly Spikes. Magmite is clearly a Buzzy Beetle despite only having a similar appearance and Japanese name, for example. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:29, 22 November 2017 (EST)

"Clubbas in general?" You realize that Clubbas are the derived species and Spikes are the parent species, right? "Clubbas" covers three species, "Spike" covers a lot more, including all Clubbas. And they aren't Clubbas, because Clubbas are simply Spikes that are soldiers, as stated by the Japanese name, and they are neither soldiers, nor do they wield clubs. Giving them names similar to the names they gave Gabon Hei was a dumb Woolseyism thing that seemingly forgot the existence of Spike (much like the localizations of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story did...) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:49, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Dogabon and Ga(bo)nsu. Spike is Gabon, while Clubba is specified as Gabon Hei, or "Gabon Soldier." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:00, 22 November 2017 (EST)

I'd like to point out that Kroop's name only vaguely hints at his species in a roundabout way, but we list him as a Koopa Troopa because that's clearly what he is. And Kolorado doesn't have any hinting in his name, but we know he's a Troopa because he's a Troopa. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:34, 22 November 2017 (EST)

It's every bit as clear as the two examples I just mentioned. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:44, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Same way that we can tell that Kroop is a Koopa Troopa and Doopliss is a Duplighost. Deliberate design similarity + similar name (a Gabon beginning with Ga is about the same as a Nokonoko beginning with Noko), especially when the localization named him after a variety of them. He's a Spike. He just is. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:50, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Firstly, he can't be a Clubba because he isn't a soldier. Secondly, half of those "differences" you mentioned are also different from Clubbas, and are also shared with Tubba Blubba, whom you've already decided is a Spike. Thirdly, many boss variants have completely different attack patterns and appearances from their generic enemy counterparts (Petey Piranha, Big Bob-omb, King Ka-Thunk, the aforementioned Tubba Blubba, Tutankoopa whether he's a Troopa or Magikoopa, Monty Tank, King Kalamari... the list goes on. And on. And on). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:09, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Fire Flower M&L

Select attack. They pull out a flower item. They throw it in the air. They collect it. They power up. ie an item by our definition. We also include equipment as items, so items in those games are basically "things that show up in the menu." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:18, 30 November 2017 (EST)

RE: Trio Move

My suggestion would be to rewrite the page into brief summaries for each move with the {{main}} templates added, or better yet, assemble them into a table instead of individual sections. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 06:29, 30 November 2017 (EST)

Proposal

Since it appears that Link the Lefty meant to remove his vote from the Super Mario World episodes featuring Mario proposal shouldn't that proposal have passed not been extended? Chester Alan Arthur (talk)

It's not though their are 3 options and each one has a vote on it so the 3 vote margin rule wouldn't be in effect Chester Alan Arthur (talk)
Only now did I notice this, but this proposal actually should have failed since the first extension. Since LinkTheLefty rescinded his vote, there were 9 voters remaining, more than half of which (5 voters) voted for "do nothing", and as Chester said, the 3-vote margin doesn't apply here since there are more than two options. RE: Archive

They were trying to move archived posts back to their current talk page, not merging the archives. By removing the archive pages, it would get rid of the edit histories since they were carried over from moving their talk page. (One page was left archived, which contained posts from between archives 1/2 and the current talk page, further breaking the continuity.) Since I archive by copy/pasting, there were no edit histories on my archives save for the archive page creation. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:51, 2 December 2017 (EST)

RE: Desert Oasis

No, they were fine as they were with the game identifiers. Any type identifier that comes to mind for the Odyssey Desert Oasis like "location" and "area" are terms that can also be used to describe the Jungle Beat Desert Oasis, and would just make things more complicated than it needs to be. The fact that you even asked is all the more reason why type identifiers are the less suitable option here. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 04:44, 10 December 2017 (EST)

"Unofficial" names

Those you removed are actually official, just so you know. Good riddance still, because they do not designate full worlds, only some themes that can be used in the level editor. Just a heads up. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 16:17, 15 December 2017 (EST)

Chucklissa

I spent 7 hours putting together that bestiary, going through an entire playthough of the game on youtube. I'm aware that in the original game that character has four different names, but from what I saw when I watched the remake, it's only known as Chucklissa.--EldritchdraaksSig1.pngEldritchdraaksSig2.png 21:37, 15 December 2017 (EST)
