DisclaimerEdit

I am new to this site and have already been warned on my behavior. I promise I'm not trying to break rules or anything, I'm just having a rough time getting used to all these posting rules and techniques. I don't meant to ignore anyone, it's just that all this forum and coding business is a little confusing. I apologize if I did anything wrong.

Hello, and welcome! When writing game titles, please remember to italicize them by adding two apostrophes to either side of the title. For example, Mario Kart Wii creates Mario Kart Wii. Thanks! -- TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:58, 15 October 2017 (EDT)

Image uploadsEdit

Hello, TheVixter. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded coding is shown below.

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line of the variable(s) you don't use. If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using aboutfile incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, TheVixter. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Just leaving these here to help you out with some things.    18:14, 20 October 2017 (EDT)

Hello. Sorry. I'm new to this website and am still trying to figure out how to properly submit things.

This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site.
If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it.

A patroller (staff of Super Mario Wiki) issued reminders and you ignored them. Also, check Gallery:Mario for your Mario-related uploads (see galleries for all galleries). It's hard to identify uncategorized or unsourced images or using vague descriptions. File:Mariobobomb.png, we had File:Mario (with Bob-omb) - Misc artwork.png. We might already have something and don't want to duplicate uploads. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:28, 20 October 2017 (EDT)

I apologize. I wanted to submit images but I am still confused if I am doing it properly. I thought I was doing it correctly but apparently I wasn't. I think I need to reread the guidelines and posting techniques. I hope I am replying to this post correctly.

I only issued the warning to get your attention. It seemed as though you were ignoring one of our staff members. As for uploading, this isn't like a file sharing and hosting website (Imgur or Photobucket). For older images, we likely have it uploaded already. Super Mario Wiki is a bit more restrictive about potential duplicate uploads. To find images categorically, read the blue box. The green box is about how to deal with aboutfile. We don't need to do things more than once. The template galleries contains all known galleries of Super Mario Wiki. If your upload is a different format than the one you found, it is likely a replacement, or goes against our policy. The rule prohibiting submitting JPEGs converted to PNGs is relatively new. This also applies trying to force transparency onto JPEGs. This doesn't apply to trying to replace an older JPEG with a clean PNG version. That's acceptable. I recently did this with Donkey Kong Country images (File:RopeyRumbleGBC.png replaced File:RopeyRumbleGBC.jpg). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:36, 20 October 2017 (EDT)
First off, File:Brickhit.png will be deleted because File:Mariobrick2.png is mirrored identical and the latter is sharper and cleaner. Second, you converted to PNG to apply transparency, which is against policy and a passed proposal years ago prohibits applying transparency to JPEGs. JPEG isn't capable of transparency, so it must be saved in a format that supports it. So the images you want to insert are File:Marioball.png and File:Mariobrick2.jpg. Thirdly, you should be able to, unless you aren't autoconfirmed. If you are autoconfirmed, you should be able to edit galleries. Just follow the pattern of other image embed examples. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:40, 21 October 2017 (EDT)
It's probably better to upload images unaltered if they aren't your own work (see File:Mariobrick3.jpg and File:Mariobrick2.jpg). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 02:09, 21 October 2017 (EDT)
Also you're adding images that have seem to been rushed and badly cropped.  L151

If you feel like people keep pestering you, don't feel that way, because I have one more question. Where is the source of all your uploads? This will help the rest of the editors decide how to categorize the images further from just licensing information. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:30, 22 October 2017 (EDT)

I wonder if doing a Google Image Search in a particular way will find the original source. Click the camera icon on the right side of the field where you would type in a search query. Then upload the image and Google will try to find matches (it also has a URL search option but you won't be using that). The search isn't perfect. It is best to not upload saved works that you modified later. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:28, 22 October 2017 (EDT)

Super Mario Wiki covers Play Nintendo, so Category:Play Nintendo Images exists. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:12, 20 November 2017 (EST)

Please remember to add categories related to the game the image is from if possible, such as Category:Super Mario Party Images, or it may result in a last warning in the future. Thanks! -- TheFlameChomp (talk) 14:28, 5 October 2018 (EDT)

ReuploadingEdit

There wasn't a need to add a background. When you reupload an image, you may need to press Ctrl + F5 to clear the cache and refresh the image. Sorry I didn't say this sooner before you uploaded a different image.    15:26, 22 October 2017 (EDT)

While viewing the image you originally uploaded, press Ctrl and F5. The image should refresh to the most recent upload.    15:50, 22 October 2017 (EDT)

Changing file namesEdit

Reuploading doesn't do that; to do that, you have to move the image. Just don't move an image if its title already makes sense. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:53, 25 October 2017 (EDT)

UploadsEdit

Hi. I'm curious about where you're getting your uploads. It seems a number of them have been poorly cropped and applied with bad transparency (as evident in the white pixels when placed on a black background, shown below), and even converted from JPG to PNG, against what's been told to you above. If that's the case, please just upload them as they were originally found in the source, with any backgrounds intact and the original format, as modifying them in any of these ways goes against policy. Again, you've been reminded about this already; if this continues, you may receive another warning. Thanks for understanding.   Mario JC 00:58, 7 November 2017 (EST)

That's okay. Regular cropping is fine, but otherwise it's best to upload it as is.   Mario JC 03:35, 7 November 2017 (EST)
I meant like trimming out the unnecessary parts of an image (borders etc.), or cutting out a smaller (rectangular) part of a larger image (e.g. File:KCDeluxe-SMLPipeFist.png).
Please remember to sign your comments with ~~~~ as well.   Mario JC 20:19, 7 November 2017 (EST)

Did this originally have a white background? There's still some white space between Yoshi's feet.   Mario JC 21:43, 12 November 2017 (EST)

Okay, but I thought I made it clear that if there was a background, and if it was JPG, leave them as they are. Why are you still making changes to the images?   Mario JC 21:56, 12 November 2017 (EST)

About this image of Toadette...Edit

Hey, TheVixter, can you tell me where you got this image in question, by any chance? Because it almost looks the same like what we saw "status wise" related to Super Mario Run when we see about representing Toadette in the game. Let me know soon; thanks for your time. --M. C. - Profile | Talk Page 10:23, 14 December 2017 (EST)

Just letting you know that if you want to link to an image already on the wiki, you would type :File:<name>. For example, File:Mario.png. Note this coding is not necessary in galleries.    14:06, 14 December 2017 (EST)

Image sourcesEdit

Could you list the exact and more specific sources for your recent uploads? For this one in particular, since it came from Super Mario Backpack Buddies, was a key ring attached to the original artwork?   Mario JC 00:10, 30 August 2018 (EDT)
